Trading in a 2010 Nissan Armada Platinum 2wd with 79,300 miles for a 2012 Acura MDX Technology package with 82k miles. I've gotten the trade difference down to $7,500. I originally wanted the trade difference at $6k, but am satisfied with the sales price. Would like another $1k for the trade in. How would the car experts rate the current deal?

I rate it good for everybody.

It's not good for everyone if I'm getting screwed on the trade in. That's why I didn't want to get into specifics on the sales price and the trade in value.

Why not just drive the Armada another 100K or 150K?

Wife wants something smaller. Based on KBB, NADA, and Edmunds, the private party sales price is 23k - 25k.

Every single customer I have had always wants more for their trade. We build more value in our vehicle than the true value, which KBB does not stroke a check for your vehicle, they simply present a range so consumer has knowledge. IMO, I would see if the dealer will meet in the middle, so you don't feel like you got handled and the dealer feels like you are playing ball to reach a deal. GL

I think the original trade difference was around $9,700, so I've gotten some out of them. If I could sell the Armada today, and get more out of it, I would be most happy.

Between the two you will not realize much gas savings as the MDX takes premium fuel. Likely better off in a honda pilot price wise too which is basically the same vehicle minus some of the bells and whistles. I have had hondas and have a current MDX. I will be going back to a honda as it is not worth the premium IMO.

2 years newer but with more miles for $7.5k? That 7.5k is getting you into a "premium" vehicle from an already upscale Platinum edition. The miles make it seem much less attractive.

Having owned a 2012 MDX w/ Tech, I wouldn't necessarily recommend it. It is a very nice vehicle, with good features and tech. However, it's the end of the generation and feels a bit dated. The gas mileage is absolutely terrible (16 mpg city, 22 at best on highway), and the stupid maintenance on the AWD system (if you don't need it) is more than I anticipated.

The new generation is worlds ahead IMO. We have a 2015 and I love it. Drove to Gulf Shores this weekend and averaged 29.6 mpg. Plus all the newer tech and features.

Agreed....why in the hell would you "trade up" to a higher mileage vehicle using premium gas? You could get a newer non-luxury nameplate with far fewer miles.

The mileage doesn't scare me at all. I have a Lexus with over 230k miles.
