Did you actually sell the house, or do you have a contract to sell the house? You said something about closing in June, so I'm confused.

If you actually did sell the house, then yes all of that info is public record however, it's so recent that I'm surprised that the sale can make the public records so fast.

If you just have a contract for sale, that is not public record. Yes, your house is on the MLS and someone who knows your address can put two and two together... but..

We entered into contract this week, and we are set to close in June.

So the secretary/realtor did not disclose anything that wasn't publicly available.

Except for the fact the house hasn't closed yet but she probably saw it went pending on the MLS which isn't private. Other than being a nosey count, it's hard to say she did anything legally wrong.

Besides, I have over a month of vacation and sick time built up. My time would be easily accounted for through July.

Why wouldn't you take a week's vacation first. When you return, give your 2 weeks.

Because I get paid for those days if I don't use them. Therefore I'll get paid for the month of June as if I worked the whole thing. Sick time I'll lose, but the only sick days I used were for my son's birth and wife's surgery. I'm not really one to call in sick.

She didnt do anything legally wrong that I can see (although I've never had a real estate license so I dont know what the ethical standards are). But I bet if she works for a real estate company, they wouldnt be pleased to hear about it. Whose going to use the company that blabs about you moving before you planned to tell? Thats a pretty bad rep to have in that industry.

Agree, but we don't know the context of the convo. If she specifically reached out about it to say "Did you hear xxxx is selling their house, I wonder if xxxx knows" then that is very unprofessional. However, if they were out together and it was brought up in the convo "I didn't know that xxxx was selling his house?" then I don't think its that bad, just horrible timing being his boss was unaware of his plans.

So if they fire you, you get paid for those vacation days? What is this thread about, just trying to get ins for June?

If you get paid for vacation regardless, and all your after is to shake money out of them, take your two weeks vacation and come back and act sick, then turn in your 2 weeks, you just might get July squeezed in.

And technically, if he is let go, he would have the option to buy Cobra coverage... And you have 45 days, if I remember right, to do that.

So you could go the month and if something did come up, you could then purchase coverage that is retroactive.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong about being Cobra eligible if terminated.

Pretty much how it works with Cobra. Andbwuth all insurances. If payment is due June 1, there is at least a window of 30 days to pay before a cancellation notice is sent. Then you have another week or so.

It is possible that the secretary and office manager are close and talk or get together occasionally. If was mentioned during a conversation like you mentioned with no ill intent no need to get too upset.

I definitely think there's a very real chance that there was no bad intentions. But having this happen to my family as well, I think you should be smart enough to realize that you don't let things like that slip if you don't know what someone's employer knows. Seems like something you would realize a little more if you work in the industry.

Soldier House - this would be a great message board name for a realtor.

No employee has ever-not will they ever-pay for their own unemployment insurance taxes. Employers pay for it themselves when they remit their quarterly payroll taxes.

Lots of misinformation in your post. If you have questions, ask them.

Aren't there Obamacare penalties that kick in if you have a coverage lapse? I've been wondering about this, as I am working on a job change that could result in about a one month gap.

Had some time to respond with a tad more info...

It's a benefit program but one that's paid 100% by your employer through their payroll taxes that you never pay a single cent of. It is also considered taxable income you'll receive a 1099 for at the end of the year. Every state will allow you to deduct 10% for taxes while drawing which negates the tax impact to some degree.

There are but it is a month or so. My gap will only be two weeks. I could risk it, but I'd rather not.
