I am in no rush to sell so I listed house FSBO. Keep getting calls from real estate agents harassing and berating us for doing FSBO. We are offering 2% if a real estate agent brings buy a buyer. Anyone else experience this?

FWIW, a real estate agent would probably be getting between $8500-9000.

I just sold mine FSBO and I am a realtor. I received many calls from other realtors also. They are just cold calling, but it is a shame that some get overly aggressive. I had a few also. Good luck with your home.

Are they really "berating" you or just trying to push you to use them vs. FSBO. Just tell them to find a buyer and you'll gladly work with them for 2%.

When they are basically calling my wife stupid for doing this, yes.

For the record I think most agents are worthless and will sell my current home FSBO, but if they are truly calling her stupid report them to their licensing board.

I'm willing to bet they are just suggesting, perhaps aggressively, that you should use their services.

They didn't. They "basically" did it, which means they didn't.

Maybe he was referring to the 6% if he did use a realtor

Fck them. Find online posting sites where you can shame them for doing this.

A steep realtor fee feels like adding insult to injury

Every realtor will go 5% and some will go 4% but just know that your house might not get shown as much as the 5% and 6% houses. Steering is illegal but there's not doubt that it happens.

"Oh, you don't wanna go see that house. I've heard it has complications. Let's go look at this 6% house that suits your wants better"

Not true. I am in the middle of buying a house and the couple I am buying from is doing a relocation and his company is paying the 6% commission. I know it's rare but does happen.

Yes, Cendant has contracts with corporations and those listing go up at 6%. Cendant also owns ERA, Century 21, and Coldwell Banker and has some very large contracts with major corporations.

Cendant takes a cut of the transaction and gets franchise fees so they probably actually are only charging the company 4-5% to get the contracts but make up the difference off of their franchise agreements. They also guarantee that if they can't sell the home in 180 days they will buy it from the company or at least they used to.

Don't "realtors" have some shite in their professional standards about undercutting the standard 6%?

I'm so glad I changed my mind about becoming an agent. It's a very crowded field. There are some very professional and classy agents out there, but I see many that are immature and shallow ... and you wonder how they passed the test.
