I'm tempted to jump in, just not if the free fall is over yet.

Sales off 30%

So you're saying 70% if their customer base either lives under a rock or is willing to risk explosive diarrhea for a burrito..

I like the place but it's not worth paying for it so dearly hours later. I swore it off last time.

I don't like the product so I won't buy the stock.

Don't try to catch the knife, they're still facing issues over the sanitation issues.

You think they won't recover?

I know they've been subpoenaed in a federal criminal inquiry AND a CDC investigation. Looks pretty bad for them, since they basically pushed that "non-GMO" "locally sourced" ingredients despite the risks.

I honestly haven't had the guts to eat there since their outbreak expanded to my state. Can't believe they are only down 30%. A lot of their business seems dependent on people believing that non-GMO foods and locally sourced produce was completely safe and of adequate quality.

I was at a mall last Saturday and the mall was packed, as was the entire food court, with the exception of chipotle. There was nobody in line. It was really surprising.

I know this is only anecdotal, but this is going to hurt, the only question is for how long, and do they make a full recovery? I can't help but think 18 months from now this will all be a distant memory

That's part of their problem. They took the local Jose farmer's word that their wasn't shite mixed in with his lettuce and tomatoes rather than using commercially sourced ingredients who have adequate quality controls. While it probably sounded "less harmful" the pesticides etc. there were definitely some overlooked risks.

I haven't eaten at one in a while, but I used to like it. I always thought it was fresher/less "overseasoned saltfest" than Izzo's or Freebirds, but probably wont be back for some time.

I think the see below $250/share before its over. The market is also collapsing before our eyes in case nobody noticed.

This will be and already is an undervalued stock. Buy fear. Chipotle is a very strong brand that will rebound rapidly.

Seems as though spastic colon is on their secret menu.

They have to completely change their sourcing model. It's a dichotomous change for the brand. Local sourcing is a noble idea, but without proper safety controls in place, it eventually lead to third-world-like health concerns. They knew the risks, rolled the dice and lost.

I will stay away until they figure it out.

bump

out of just pure curiosity - anyone changing their tune on this one?

Just this morning I was hearing talk that NOW their problem may not be consumer trust any longer, but boredom with the menu and the lack of changes leading to consumers looking for something different....

I used to work across the street from the first shophouse in Los Angeles (also the first one outside of the inaugural city, Washington, D.C.). I ate there all the time.

The food is really unique and I loved it. All the meats and sauces have their own distinct flavors, unlike chipotle where pretty much everything tastes the same and can get boring after a while. It's pretty easy to get bored of chipotle whereas shophouse u can do a lot more mixing and matching to keep things interesting.

That being said, I don't see shop house really helping chipotle's brand. Chipotle is Mexican food, everyone loves Mexican food. It's very safe.

Shop house is a mixture of Vietnamese and thai food. It's very unique and polarizing. People either loved it or hated it. There was a chipotle about a block away from that shophouse, the lines at chipotle were ridiculous at lunch and dinner time. Shophouse was nowhere near as busy.

I agree with the other poster that said chipotle has a menu problem and people are getting bored.
