Does anyone here buy discounted gift cards online with a credit card (to get the points still)? A colleague said he bought a bunch of discounted gift cards online with his credit card (still got the points) and it saved him like 15% on his purchases.

For those that don't know, say you wanted a new fridge or another big purchase from best buy or home depot, you can buy gift cards from folks online willing to trade them for less cash than they’re worth.

Cardpool.com is the one I’m looking at, but I’m a little scared to do it. You can pick a total like “$2,500” and it will pool together all the cards for sale at the best discounts to equal that total in store dollars.

They have a few options like raise.com, etc.

Or you can buy individual $100 gift cards to wal-mart or target for like $85… I know this has been around for a while, just curious if anyone here has tried it out.

I am bored at work and wanted to know what the catch is here

Seems like it would be way more known to people if this was a great system.

I do, but not necessarily for the credit card points. I do get 2% cash back on my cap one card though. I buy home Depot cards at 6% off. I bought a best buy one a couple of weeks ago for a TV.

Yeah that's just another benefit, especially for big purchases.

What site do you use? Is it reliable?

Keep in mind with a site like raise, they validate the cards and have them in their possession. You aren't dealing with a person. I normally get the ecode to buy online and pick up in store. When I bought a 1k best buy gift card, they actually made me call them to verify information to reduce fraud.

I have used giftcardgranny and raise at least 10 times. No issues at all

Depending on the merchant, they only accept so many gift card codes on their website, so watch out when buying small amounts. I think best buy will only allow you to enter 6 for one order

I do this fairly often actually. Just last week I bought one to Ruth's Chris for 31% off haha. But like the other poster, I generally use them for either Home Depot or Lowes. Raise is my go to. On the weekends some of their cards are an addtioanl 5% off. I used Cardpool once and didn't have any problem with them; but after that initial purchase, I read some bad reviews about them that have scared me from making additional purchases. People were havig issues with their purchases and said it was impossible to get them on the phone. I use my credit card and I assume I get points, but have never checked.

Combine that with a coupon of 15% or so and you're looking at a substantial savings at somewhere like Home Depot.

I just bought one to Chipotle since I am there all the time. We'll see how it works.

Raise.com

If I know I'm going to make a big purchase at any store, I'll go on Raise first to see if there are decent discounts on cards. If the discounts at >10%, I'll buy it and use it on the purchase.

I've saved about $1,000 over the past 2 years or so according to my Raise account.

Yes, used raise before. Bought a $500 gift card for 7 jeans for $350. Then used it on a "spend $500 take 35% off" sale. Or something along those lines. Worked out great. Essentially I got 4 pair of jeans for the price of two.

Raise is legit.

Do it all the time. Very reliable. Check giftcardgranny.com for the best discounts. It is kind of an aggregator for all gift card sites.

Got a home improvement coming up? Buy Lowe's GCs to shop at Lowe's for an effective 10-15% discount plus whatever you get from your CC. Additionally, some websites give you website points for spending money so you can "triple dip" even before any store/vendor discounts.

Great app, I've done this as well. You can easily save 10% on purchases if you do it. Wife bought a card to save 15% while waiting in line at Pottery Barn at Christmas. Worked flawlessly.

I have rental property and buy Lowes 10% off coupons at this site. If you buy 5 they're .60 each. They email them to you pretty quickly.

Looks like this is a stackable opportunity to "quadruple dip."

Use coupon to bring down total cost of the bill. Then pay it off using Lowe's GCs

All the time on Raise. Never had a problem.

Use it mainly for big purchases at Target.com, PepBoys, Home Depot, etc. I'm guessing my savings have been close to a grand in two years.
