In 2005, posters here wanted us to throw more because the run game wasn't working. I think what I've learned is that no matter what we're good at doing, the board always wants us to throw more.

I would feel like: we were ok passing the ball, but we would need 188 attempts to do it, probably a few more turnovers, and I would also feel like our tunning game was garbage.

Take into account we: lose about 30 more yards a game in penalties, lose about 40 yards a game in the kicking game.....and we are playing pretty poorly. All signs of a not focused poorly performing team. I don't buy tgat we are physically head and shoulders abou r every team we play....but to not have EMU over at half is terrible

Scoring points does not make the defense bad, but there is a reason why virtually every air raid offense has below average defenses. When you throw a lot and score quickly, you put your defense on the field more often. If you are not really deep on defense this will make your defense tired. This is pretty much a fact.

well in that scenario he wouldn't need very many touches to get over 200 yards a game

In that scenarios LF7 would not have as many long runs as teams wouldn't have so many people close to the LOS. When team s stack the box it allows LF to make 1 guy miss and it's over.

Tell me all about the championships won in the modern era by teams who only pass for 80 yards.

We only passed for 80 yards because our receivers didnt feel like showing up.

The numbers have been skewed in almost every game because of penalties/drops.

NO!

How bout a little balance....because that is what it will take to compete against the upper tier teams that have the athletes we have.

Or maybe you are satisfied beating Lady Monroe and Southern Michigan and going to a "nice" bowl....

Bc we had NFL offensive talent and we weren't scoring many points in 2005.

So if we want to score a lot and have the talent to do so, we should focus heavily on the area we are good at. So, about this year . . .

True that drops and penalties have hurt. But these are only the latest excuses for a chronic problem. Besides, every team has drops and penalties.

Hard to compare 2005 Bc it was a new coach and no bye weeks. But 2005 had a better defense and the offense struggled some but still better than now. But no one wants to abandon the run. That's a straw man argument. We crave balance.

No. I prefer being a great running team and usually teams that can fall back on their running game are the ones that win championships. However, when you can't get more than 4 completions and 100 yards against Eastern Michigan and are 124th in the nation in passing, it's a sign of issues to come against the teams you play on the meat of your schedule that will be able to stop the run better than the teams at the front of the schedule. These guys are all talented on offense and there is no reason that passing should seem like an impossible task.

It is. If someone makes it, I'll be sure to let you know.

This isn't an excuse, because they have to execute better and more often to be successful, but Eastern Michigan must have been coached to haul down any receiver with steps. They got flagged for interference a ton, and probably avoided four other flags that should have been thrown. It was really something.

Maybe so, but we even had some wide open ones that we dropped. But also, they showed no fight in getting the ball when defenders did or did not interfere. We've only been over 80 yards passing once in 4 games and that is alarming. There is some kind of problem across the board.

Then all of the Negatigers would be complaining that we don't have a good enough run game to win the SEC

Gotta love most of those morons right?

especially those ones that think that a good passing game and a balanced attack is a BAD thing!
