Would Miles do what Saban did after his first year at Bama?

And demote his DC after one season? Seems to me it worked out well for Saban, but many of you would claim Saban is the devil and nothing he does is acceptable.

It amazes me that people thought the Steele hire would be anything but a flop full of excuses, but he's never been a successful DC in his entire career at any level, yet he was going to turn it on at LSU apparently.

Would Milea be a strong enough leader to denote him?

I think most people realize Miles hired Steele because Steele was the only candidate who would agree to the hiring/retaining of the assistants Miles wanted. I don't think many thought Steele was going to be a superstar DC. I doubt Miles is willing to part with Orgeron, Raymond, et al, so I don't see how getting rid of Steele is going to solve the DC problem.

So then LSU should accept a mediocre coordinator to waste talent? There is the crux of the problem. Just like many that claimed Les couldn't be touched because it would hurt a great recruiting class. At some point sacrifices in the short term must be made for the long term betterment of the program. UT is an example of what is going to happen to LSU right now if things don't change.

You mean force out a coach who won a title to hire a guy that's looked clueless for the most part?

UT died bc of their drop off in recruiting... our situation is different

No they didn't. By the same metric LSU fans boast about les' recruiting, the UT classes were right up there. The difference was just like is happening at LSU with Les, he was allowed to stay on too long and the team psyche has entirely eroded just like coach's. Strong is having to rebuild because he kicked off the talented players that Mack pampered, not because UT had no talent.

The 2010-2012 UT classes were all ranked top 3 or better by rivals. It was the losing in 2012 that led to their crappy class in 2013.

I agree with you completely, I was just saying what I think happened. I understand the importance of recruiting, but I think we are paying a price for that. A great defense would have been a handy recruiting tool.

Saban didn't demote Steele after 2007. He promoted him to assistant head coach and head coach of the defense, and promoted Kirby Smart to defensive coordinator. Steele was still calling the shots in 2008.

Miles said in his post-game presser he thought the defense played well save 3 plays. Steele ain't going anywhere unless the decision is made above Miles' head.

So he was promoted only to leave for a demotion as DC at Clemson? Sure.

Some of you will do anything to defend that hire. He was so good as a playcaller at DC that he got promoted away from that duty.
