On paper, McMahon was a good hire. Coming off a big season. Had done relatively well at Murray (minus two mediocre seasons). My concern is his recruiting. He has no personality when you speak with him. I can’t imagine getting recruited by him, Pearl, Oats, Musselman, and Cal and going with McMahon.

So because he’s made other good hires, I’m a moron and retarded for questioning the one sport that he has a consistently bad track record on?

Moron, seems a bit harsh.

Well, yes, you are on this.
Johnson, Kelly and Mulkey. Not everyone is perfect at new hires in any profession. Who would you have chosen?

You people are a bit too obsessed with something that is (currently) out of your control. You’re beating a dead horse.

I thought MM recruited decently in a bad situation last year. But if you do not recruit well at least 3 years out of 4, you won't make it in the SEC these days.

When I look back at our squad this past season, I really believe we had enough talent to win maybe 8-9 SEC games. I think we underachieved and at least part of that was coaching. It leaves me with no confidence that MM can make this program what it was under WW, a top 4-5 SEC team.

I will be GLAD to be wrong about this as I am a loyal LSUMBB fan and plan on renewing my season tickets.

His first class was a bust, and probably depended on his Murray guys a little too much. A lot of people are freaking out about the 2nd class but it’s clear it will be transfer-heavy. We will know a lot more when we see the final class

It better be. He’s going to need to find 3 Tari Easons in the portal to get this team to 10 league wins

very obvious some of yall either are ignorant of college basketball outside of LSU or vastly over-estimate LSU's reputation in college basketball

LSU has as good a history as majority of SEC, IMO

High Profile NBA Stars in Shaq, Pettit, Pistol (Top 100 in NBA History), Final 4's, etc.

You CAN win here but energy to promote your program, good coaching & stability are needed.

If he would have extended Wade

In a sense he did extend Wade. His contract was reworked. Wade came back with a chance to clear himself. Wade had a decent year, but not a good year.

Woody finally caved and ran him off to my chagrin. But Woody was responsible for that last season too.

I think it’s a smaller sample size with Romar (6 years), Buzz (4 years), and McMahon (1 year).

To be fair Texas A&M has always been terrible at basketball.

That's BS. The contract allowed Scott to fire Wade for cause if they received an NOA with L1 and L2. Within days of the NOA coming down Scott fired him.

Sounds like a success to me.

We could’ve gone the innovative route with an up and coming coach like a Paul Mills or we could’ve hired a stabilizer in an older, successful coach like a Frank Martin. Both have won far above their stations without a lot of talent. One could’ve been long term the other short term depending on what type of sanctions you thought you’d get. Instead we hired a cardboard, palatable resume who won’t make any waves or demand upgrades from the AD but who can’t actually coach or recruit at this level.

Did you think we would run Wade off, gut the program, hire a new coach, and win an NCAA playoff game? I didn’t.

I was hoping for somewhere between this and being deadass last place in the SEC, if we're sharing our truths in here.

1 season doesn't define a coach. Would you take UCLA's Mike Cronin at LSU? Of course you would. Did you know after he left Murray State and took the Cincinnati job, it took him 5 years just to reach 20 wins? He went 2-14 his first year in conference.

Chris Beard went 6-12 his first year at Texas Tech.
Bruce Pearl went 4-14 his first year at Auburn.
Kelvin Sampson went 4-14 his first year at Houston.
Scott Drew went 3-13, 1-15 his first 2 years at Baylor.
