Well, for starters, it seats 10,000 more people than where the game was played last year. Not to mention it's a top 20 stadium overall for seating capacity, NFL or college, so that's not exactly commensurate with "not that big".
And, of course, as far as awesome historic stadiums it's number one overall, so that too. (Notre Dame stadium and that whole program can frick off).

Can you discuss tailgating in and around Lambeau vs just hitting up the bar scene on game day?

For Packer games it's awesome. When I go home to go to games, we just pack our drinks and booze and head up there, and always meet people who are tailgating and the next thing you know we're part of their group, having food, shots, you name it. But, those are Packer fans, who are going to be among the nicest, most welcoming sports fans you could come across. I think it'll be a jovial atmosphere in the parking lot for this game, but not on the same level. Below is a pic I took about an hour before a big Packer game. Lots of fun parties, custom vans/ambulances, big setups and rowdiness (I've never been to an LSU game or Ole Miss, but Lambeau is fun...the people are great).
The lots open about 4 hours before the game. People also have cars park on their yard, right across from the stadium, and those areas are fun too.
The bars are literally one block from the stadium parking lot, so it all just kind of runs together around the stadium. It's not two completely separate areas.
If you get to town a day early, I'd strongly suggest checking out the Packer Hall of Fame, among other things.
I posted on the flight thread for this game and can add some additional thoughts in there (or here if you guys would like). There's a cool brewery across from downtown, Titletown Brewing, that's worth a visit. Also, there's a craft brewery and tap room that is doing some awesome beers a block past the bars on Holmgren Way that's called Badger State Brewing. I've only been there once, but I strongly recommend it. They also have a beer garden.

Screw that. I'm cancelling my hotel if that is how much the tickets cost. Hoping my LSU connection comes through.

I don't see any reason at all to spend that kind of money on a Week 1 game. Maybe a bowl, but that's it.

Only one NFL stadium would be Top-5 in the SEC (Top-4 in the B1G), and that is a stadium that hasn't hosted an NFL game for two decades.

Wow!! So for $2400 (minimum), my wife and I can go see the game and stay at a 2 star hotel? Oh wait! I forgot the flight prices. What a deal.

Well, they're selling, so clearly someone thinks the price is worth it.

What lake is the place on?
Shawano, about 45 minutes to Green Bay. My inlaws stay there when they go to games at Lambeau and say the drive is easy. It's not 'close' (amending my 'short' drive from Green Bay), but it's free!

Ok, so I'm trying to get an idea of what I need for tailgating the day of.
I see that the lots don't open for people to park until 4 hours before kick. Anyone know if we can get in to set up a tailgate without the vehicle earlier? Maybe in a lawn area?
If I'm doing it, I'm doing this thing right (get there at around 6 and to start cooking). Otherwise, I'll just hit a few bars before the game. Not wasting my time for 4 hours of tailgating.

Studies have shown $1700 in disposal income helps with happiness
that said why question it? If the experience is worth more than the money do it!

This thread was started a while back. I just want to chime in that tickets are going for as low as $175 on the ticket exchange

What's "the ticket exchange"?
Posted on 7/18/16 at 5:49 pm to Chucktown_Badger
It's a board here. Posters can go to buy/sell game tickets, parking passes, etc.
