His tenure is remembered by many for how it ended but he did do a lot for LSU those first three years and started bringing us out of the dark ages of 6 straight losing seasons. He was also responsible for a number of facilities improvements. I'd like to see him honored for the 20the anniversary of the 97 Florida game or something like that. He should not be lumped in with Hallman like some seem to.

He laid the foundation for what the program is today. He started keeping in-state talent at home. It's hard to stop a train wreck and he effectively did that. His predecessors have taken that foundation and built upon it to what the program is right now.

Dinardo did any good things for LSU's program and should be appreciated for that.

Really was. had great assistants, lost them, and couldn't replace them.

And we lost them because they left for better pay. The thing I think a lot of people miss from that era is that Joe Dean ran the AD on a tight budget and it hurt the FB program. You can not compete at the highest level being cheap. We hired Gerry in the first place because Joe Dean was cheap. A guy like Saban would never have taken the LSU job without a commitment from Emmert that we should spend the money on the program.

dinardo was not much different from miles. the biggest difference is that miles fired his horrible assistants(malveto) when things started to go downhill and dinardo kept his (tepper).

I've been a big defender of Gerry D, but Miles is much better (look at their pre LSU records). Miles is also a better and smarter recruiter. It's a popular and simple narrative to blame the 98 and 99 seasons all on Tepper. The D was a big problem, but Gerry recruited a number of kids that never made it to campus because they didn't qualify. Look at the rosters the last 2 years, seriously lacking depth. Gerry would have done better with the advantages Miles has, but I don't think he could have the program at this level.

I can see that. Dinardo lacked the facilities and foundation and of course the wherewithal to fire bad assistants that Miles has. But he also had to operate under Joe Dean.

If for no other reason, Dinardo should be honored for getting the jersey rule changed. For those who are too young to remember:

you know how every significant image of LSU shows us in white? Cannon's run, etc? Well, in the early 80's the NCAA made a rule that home teams must wear dark jerseys. This really only affected us and I think Georgia Tech; everyone else already did wear dark at home. But LSU was forced to change their appearance to meet the new rules (which is why you see images of Hodson etc in purple, not white).

Dinardo pushed to get that rule changed. Is it a trivial accomplishment? You tell me how many times you remember LSU wearing a purple jersey in a big game, and then decide if it was a big deal or not.

Those who want to recognize DiNardo must either 1)be close friends or 2) have too little to do.
There is a long line of players, coaches and supporters who have contributed.
As a head coach, his performace was an improvement over his awful predecessor(s),but in the end was bad enough to get him fired.
Not a bad guy.
NOt a great coach in D-1.
Let's honor disabled veterans, nurses, the handicapped, teachers, volunteers, etc. if you feel a need to honor somone.

No doubt Joe had his problems, but I'm not sure he got to decide by himself how much a football coach at LSU was going to be paid.

Maybe the very best thing to happen to LSU football was ME being hired. Mark understood the impact a successful football program could have on all avenues of the school and he knew a good coach salary would be repaid 10 times over back to the school.

This is 100% true. It is the same reason that we ended up with Curly. Hell the buyout on Curly Hallman's last year was only $90k.

Or people with proper perspective on how things played out over the years.

Just because you're an ungrateful dickbag doesn't mean the rest of us are.

Dickbag, of course.
Ungrateful, no. I've just given you a long list of people more worthy of being honored than DiNardo.
Judging by the underwhelming response on this thread, there doesn't seem to be a landslide of gratitude for gerry's " accomplishments". Going 6-15 his last two seasons ( losing to Houston, at HOME?) made me less than grateful, I guess .
Come to think of it, I'm more grateful for my grade school librarian than DiNardo. She knew what she was doing.

If he would have went for 2 against South Carolina he would be recognized for an SEC western division championship and possibly
an SEC championship

To me this is the better question.

I don't see Nick ever being recognized/honored by LSU.
Maybe like 20 years from now, but not anytime soon.

no one is asking to fricking hang a banner for the guy or put him in the ring of honor, but just a little in game recognition would be a nice gesture. We've done it for people who did much less.

Well, that's because you're a dickbag. If you can't see the good that he did for LSU, that means there is something wrong with you, not him.
