Because they only have the WatchESPN cameras at the Box. The SECN cameras are not there.

Because no one ever thought of that and ESPN just wants you to sit and stew while you helplessly watch online or listen on the radio.

I'm pretty sure the SECN cameras are there but not the cameras for the SECN Alternate channel.

Why not? In the end it's all ESPN. Always look to really see who is the actual winner of the ESPN/SEC networking deal.

The aTm game is the advance game if they win.

The LSU regional is a day behind.

Has anyone given a legit answer as to why they don't use those alternate SECN channels in these situations? Or is it always just the pointless smartass retorts like as here.

It's been said they are only contracted out for football games, but yet tonight, they throw the A&M game on it. It's on now.

Texas A&M was the game originally scheduled for SEC Network but the Florida game ran long so the A&M game started on the alternate channel. It probably won't be on the alternate channel for too much longer, I imagine. Scheduled games often get moved to the alternate channel when games before them run long.

It's only contracted for football games or when the previous game is running long and there isn't an ESPN Alternate (basically ESPN News) to put the game on...

It has something to do with how much money is exchanged between ESPN and the cable companies for the channel space. I'm sure it's in a contract somewhere. The reason for the smartass comments, at least from me, is because when people ask the question, they ask as if someone can just press a button and there are no contracts that go over when the alternate channels are used.

It costs ESPN money with the providers to have each channel.

But the channels are there. You're saying some contract provisio is triggered as soon as an otherwise empty open channel (specially designated as ESPN "alternate" mind you, and NEVER used for anything else) is put into use. That doesn't make a lot of sense and, at the very least, would seem a pretty easy thing to negotiate around.

No. There's a whole lot that goes into slot fees, ad revenue splits, etc.

Cox/Att/Dish/etc is going to want to be paid and ESPN can't justify having the channel open all the time.

It does seem odd that you would have a double-digit channel on your box (with my provider) that literally shows about 75 hours of content a year.
