Wouldn't be surprised. I'm sure his technical abilities are fine. But as in most things these days the ability to market yourself and develop a reputation serves better than the technical aspects.

I bet he does the high profile cases himself but peddles everything else "done by him" to his residents.

His son went to LSU, so it isn't like he is anti-LSU. I think I read his daughter went to Ole Miss though

Speaking as an LSU alum, you'd think his kids would have done better.

He actually does a lot of pro-bono work for HS athletes in the local area.

Dr. Andrews and his son were in the same fraternity as me at LSU. His son was 5 years older than me and a very cool guy. We hung around a few times after I was done with pledge-dom.

I remember hearing about his dad and their crew back in their day. Someone around his age rode a horse through the quad and supposedly into the library during a certain party week. I also remember hearing that that age group was still tight and in contact with each other.

Re LSU: undergrad, pole vaulter, fraternity, had undoubted good times & made lifelong friends, son went to LSU and in same fraternity... I think its safe to say he is a tiger.

If anything its too bad his practice didn't end up in Louisiana..

Fire Alleva, Fire the board of trustees, and Fire Prez F King Alexander. If they wont fight for our right to claim a surgeon as our own they dont deserve their jobs!

Didn't Ole Miss claim him as a co-graduate in 2003?

He was well known for being the best at Tommy John surguries on Division III nobodies all the way back into the early 90's. Because he was so good, a few bigtime pitchers went to him.

He is not a "marketing" creation.

On a somewhat related topic, this is probably the most famous doctor to come out of Louisiana. Has anyone ever heard of him??

Dr Andrew's grew up in Homer LA. His mother was choir director of the Methodist church. He played on high school football team, many of whom would go to play for LSU.

He served as team doctor for Auburn. Also gave much time to Eddie Robinson and Gambling football team. That is a great story someone needs to write. Many will want to claim Jimmy but he will always be a LA Tiger.

Andrews played a huge role in helping Drew Brees after his injury at San Diego.

Yes, he was an All-Sec pole vaulter at LSU. I honestly thought most people knew that.

Him and his brother, Ernest, who practiced many years in Mobile and was a philanthropist who's assets are still doing many good things around Mobile with various charities.

DeBekey and Cooley were the studs of CV sx in Houston for a long time.

I wonder how he ended up in Alabama.

By the early 1990s, Birmingham had essentially became the South region's medical capital. UAB had an outstanding medical program, and the surrounding hospitals were adding outstanding services. A lot of top doctors were drawn to the area...of course, then Alabama-Tuscaloosa could see that UAB was growing at such a rate that it would surpass Bama in a few decades, so the Alabama board of trustees got the Tuscaloosa campus re-emphasized as the "flagship" campus of the UA system and put the smack down on UAB and Alabama-Huntsville (which was growing in its own right as an engineering hub). UAB has been stripped of its football program now too.

It's hard to claim those who don't claim you. He took his talent and his ball and left the field.
