Why would he want to play for the Australian basketball team?

Why am I getting downvoted?

If he ever plays in the Olympics, he would play for Australia. At least I would hope so.

I can't believe there are no serious posts, yet.

Anyway, Australia wanted him, but Ben knew he needed to add weight and improve his jumpshot. I read he's very much taking being the face of the 76ers franchise seriously. He skipped the Olympics because he didn't think it would be good to miss a month of the summer playing with guys he won't in the NBA. He said in 2020 if he is healthy he will 100% be there.

Why wouldn't he? Australia is probably the second best team in the tournament. I think the downvotes are because it seemed kind of condescending. It's not like people don't know he's Australian.

Your lack of knowledge on over seas basketball is why the down votes. It is a privilege to play for Australian team. Really good players. Much like France. USA is the best but not only good country.

Doesn't his team have to allow him to play? If so, I would completely understand not wanting to risk your #1 draft pick and face of the franchise before his rookie season.

If he's still ballin in four years, I'll bet he'll get to go to the next one.

No, the team can't restrict him from playing. It's what lsubutt posted plus Ben is a little salty about not being on the fiba team 2 years ago so he wasn't pressing to play on this team.

i'm sure there are restriction in his contract that prevent him in participating in outside basketball organizations. especially if part of the contract is guaranteed.

but I would imagine the 6ers would grant him a release.

Ben is still a couple years away from being at that level before he can contribute. Needs to work on his shooting big time and other aspects of his self and his game before he can be an asset at that level.

If he played for Aussie, that would ensure USA a gold medal. Because he's not a winner. Am I doing it right?
