Why shouldn't ULM or SLU be entitled to the Louisiana name? They are just as deserving. Why doesn't ULM act like bitches about it like ULL does?

Going by enrollment, SLU has a far better case than either ULL or ULM.

Start small by eliminating the SUNO (lowest 4 year grad rate in country at one point) and Southern-Shreveport. Then you can focus on the Southern, Grambling, Nicholls, etc..However look at all the outrage when they tried to combine SUNO and UNO. We couldn't even shut down a school that constantly is battling to keep their accreditation with the nation's worse graduation rate and a low enrollment. If we can't do that how would we even begin to shut down or consolidate some of the other schools?

Patnuh. You are totally full of shite. The university systems were set up mainly for academic reasons. Funding and more degree depth. No school would ever be able to brand themselves as The University of Louisiana. That was agreed to by all schools. Nothing to do with one day changing the original plan.

admission standards
quote:

It's simple. ULL is NOT chartered as a STATE University. It is chartered and has a mission as a regional university in the state. The ONLY State University in Louisiana by LAW is LSU. LSU by state law is the only COMPREHENSIVE university allowed. It is by intent that Louisiana doesn't have one University that offers engineering and agricultural degrees and another which offers Professional Degrees (Law/Medical). LSU by law is a comprehensive university that offers all. The name University of Louisiana suggests that ULL is more than it is and ever will be. Coonass University needs to STFU and be what they are supposed to be. It's ridiculous for this stupid debate to continue because the State Legislature has already put this crap to bed once and for all. ULL needs to deal with it.

You are so COMPLETLY wrong it is almost comical: along with ltu, UL is indeed designated as a 'statewide' university, with a higher set of admission standards, etc. All the rest are 'regional'
Instead of making statements based on your emotions and what you WANT to be true, try doing some research into facts first next time.

Go back and reread what I wrote, smartass. I never said they were going to change their name BC they can't. They can, however, try to brand themselves as the university of louisiana and they do.

it is not about ULM not allowing them to change their name. The University of Louisiana systems decree has from day one when the University System was started that no one of the seven universities created would ever have the title of the university of Louisiana . this was done to prevent this from ever being an issue. ULL can attempt to brand themselves as the flagship of the university systems but it is just a pipe dream.

You sir, are correct.

seriously, Why doesnt ULM push the LOUISIANA envelope like ULL. That would be pretty funny. Do people in Monroe speak of themselves regionally as LOUISIANA like ULL does?

I have some insight on this from a former president of SLU. When they changed names all UL schools were asked to it...SLU, USL, northeastern, etc. some of the schools, like SLU, thought they could keep more of identity my having their distinct names. I was also told that there was a strong feeling that after the change, ULL would try to brand themselves as UL. This would have made them appear as the flagship of the university system, which they not...but it's exactly what has happened. When they play other schools, they ask to be called UL on the radio broadcasts and most of the other louisiana schools tell them to frick off.

Thanks for the historical perspective. My personal experience agrees w/ yours.

I was involved w/ the Student Government Association at NLU some years ago when the University of Louisiana name change first came up; IIRC it was strongly supported by USL. It was offered to NLU and the other UL schools at that time; everyone at NLU laughed at the proposal. It was my understanding then that many at USL thought of themselves as a co-flagship university w/ LSU. Like your friend, I also thought ULL would eventually try to brand themselves as "The University of Louisiana." Lawson Swearingen replaced Dr. Vines as as president of NLU and championed the name change to ULM. I have a friend who's a student at ULL. If you go to the campus you'll see that all the banners and signs say, "University of Louisiana" in huge letters.......w/ "Lafayette" in tiny letters at the very bottom or not at all. The school's website, www.louisiana.edu, doesn't even the word Lafayette in it.

UL should be named University of Louisiana. It is the second largest school in the state and it is better than the others in the system. All this crap about flagship is stupid. LSU is nothing but a over hyped institution. Gets a lot of recognition because of football exposure. Take away the football team and no one outside of Baton Rouge would know about it.

Just go back to your hole in Lafayette and shut up. We're tired of all of you.

Lets just call you the New York Yankees today since it's baseball and New England Patriots in football.

That would be awesome to regularly dominate the Yankees and Patriots.
