Actually, Southeastern, Nicholls and Northwestern could've chosen to be UL, too.

Btw ULM is not going anywhere with their nursing and pharmacy schools ranked where they are.

Merge that bitch with Tech. We don't need 2 four year public universities 33 miles from each other. Close Grambling (I'll respect the shite out of a politician who throws that grenade). And that's just a remedy for North Louisiana without mention the rest of the glut of redundant higher ed.

Tech, Grambling, NW State, and ULM should be merged into "University of North Louisiana." End all duplicate graduate programs and go from there.

Now that would deserve to be called "University of Louisiana"

it is not about ULM not allowing them to change their name. The University of Louisiana systems decree has from day one when the University System was started that no one of the seven universities created would ever have the title of the university of Louisiana . this was done to prevent this from ever being an issue. ULL can attempt to brand themselves as the flagship of the university systems but it is just a pipe dream.

There's absolutely nothing grammatically wrong with beginning a sentence with a conjunction.

It's simple. ULL is NOT chartered as a STATE University. It is chartered and has a mission as a
regional university in the state. The ONLY State University in Louisiana by LAW is LSU. LSU by state law is the only COMPREHENSIVE university allowed. It is by intent that Louisiana doesn't have one University that offers engineering and agricultural degrees and another which offers Professional Degrees (Law/Medical). LSU by law is a comprehensive university that offers all. The name University of Louisiana suggests that ULL is more than it is and ever will be. Coonass University needs to STFU and be what they are supposed to be. It's ridiculous for this stupid debate to continue because the State Legislature has already put this crap to bed once and for all. ULL needs to deal with it.

The USL alumni overwhelming did not want a change to the University of Louisiana at Lafayette and share the University of Louisiana with Monroe.

The USL President ignored the alumni and created the name mess they have today. Nobody really know what to calk their university, even the students.

Why shouldn't ULM or SLU be entitled to the Louisiana name? They are just as deserving. Why doesn't ULM act like bitches about it like ULL does?

I have some insight on this from a former president of SLU. When they changed names all UL schools were asked to it...SLU, USL, northeastern, etc. some of the schools, like SLU, thought they could keep more of identity my having their distinct names. I was also told that there was a strong feeling that after the change, ULL would try to brand themselves as UL. This would have made them appear as the flagship of the university system, which they not...but it's exactly what has happened. When they play other schools, they ask to be called UL on the radio broadcasts and most of the other louisiana schools tell them to frick off.

Actually both Southern and Grambling should be closed because there is no damn need for these so-called HBCU (Historically Black Colleges & Universities) to exist any longer. They are a vestige of years gone by and WTF is their purpose but to be a fricking drain financially. Hell, Grambling is all of 6 miles from La Tech in the middle of nowhere in North Louisiana. That's absolutely stupid to have 2 4 year universities that near each other and offering many of the same degrees. The same can be said of Southern in Baton Rouge just 15 miles or so from LSU and even closer to BRCC which now has over 8,300 students and is growing rapidly. It is just stupidity and it is a large reason why the state can't properly fund higher education. For that matter does Louisiana really need a 4 year institution in Natchitoches. Let's not leave LSU out of this either. Does LSU REALLY need a Medical School in Shreveport and a 4 year school there too? I mean 2 Medical Schools has to be a HUGE monetary expense. This crap is going to demand some hard decisions be made and soon or the results will be the total downfall of higher education in Louisiana. This is why ULL needs to STFU and be what they are supposed to be. A regional University for SW Louisiana. They are NOT and Never will be the University of Louisiana. NEVER. Louisiana can't afford it.
