I think there are reasonable arguments that Landry will be the better NFL receiver and reasonable ones that OBJ will be.
Landry, in my view has pretty clearly better hands. But, OBJ has developed pretty good hands.
Landry seems better after the catch and harder to bring down. But, it isn't like OBJ isn't good after the catch.
OBJ clearly has better ability to get over the top of defenses which also translates into him being able to run corners off for easy completions when he comes back. On the other hand, Landry seems more adept at getting open in traffic.(where the whole, he's better at route running meme comes from I suppose).
Personally, if you forced me to bet on it, I'd bet on Landry being more productive in the NFL. But, I think it's a close call.

Where do people get this idea Landry runs better routes? There's reason why Beckham was wide open so much while also demanding attention.
Simple reply - Opposing defenses were keying on Landry - ala Arkansas game when he drew 3 defenders to free Dural for game winning touchdown.

defenses keyed on both, and they both benefitted from the other's presence. Odell taking the top off of defenses helped with the things that Juice did underneath.
now if Mett could've just found other options a little more consistently when both were covered (see the times we had TEs running free up the middle because defenses had their safeties bracketing the WRs outside).

How can you use an example when odb wasnt even in the game?
Odb saw more double coverge than laundry all year.

Ah gotcha, the game where Beckham didn't play.
Beckham is much more explosive out of his cuts, which gives him a much more dynamic route tree. Landry struggled to get open at times, but made up for it with his insane ability to attack the ball. Hopefully he'll be able to do that in the NFL.

Easily Mett's biggest weakness this year. Or, at least our offense's biggest weakness.
The middle of the field was available all damned year with those guys on the edge. I mean hey. I'm not really complaining. Our offense was very nice obviously. But, if we'd have taken advantage of the middle some, I suspecte OBJ and Landry would've gone even more f'n nuts.

I don't think it's a "we'd rather have Landry" thing, it's a "there's more of a chance Landry would consider coming back". ODB is gone. He's projected as a higher pick, he returns kicks, he was an All-American. So instead of pining over a guy who is clearly gone, LSU fans are pinning their hopes on a guy who at least has some chance of returning. It's not that he's better, it's that he won less accolades and isn't as projected as high in the draft. He could conceivably improve his stock by coming back.

Landry is clearly a better receiver.
He's the guy I would depend on more in a tough game to make a difficult catch in tight coverage consistently or in the slot. OBJ is the guy I would use to stretch field and he still has great hands, but Landry's, IMO, are just better.
