That is something I just don't understand. Saban has had more than his share of screw-ups:

This ones easy. Saban resurrected two programs from the grave in the SEC and took them both to the MNC and won in the toughest conference in the world.

How many coaches can say that?

Miles has maintained that level at LSU, so its not exactly an apples to apples comparison because he didnt have the opportunity to resurrect LSU.

There arent many caoches who will get that opportunity and succeed, so he'll probably go down as one of the best if not the best ever IMO.

Could he be referring to Alabama QB's playing smarter by throwing 4 interceptions or not being able to get rid of the ball and taking a sack 8 times where as LSU has thrown 1 interception and given up 3 sacks?

Maybe he is referring to Bama's smart punt coverage allowing 372 return yards to LSU's 78?

....or their 41.2% 3dr down conversion persentage compared to LSU's 46.4%?

Of course it's all about penalties and perceptions about the head coaches. Watch how Alabama starts racking up penalties when they take on quicker opponents.

Graveyard? Saban took over an LSU team that was 2 years removed from back to back 10 and 9 win seasons (back when there was an 11-game schedule), 3 consecutive bowl victories and plenty of talent in the cupboard. He took over an Alabama program that was only year removed from a 10-win season in 2005.

at week 9 they were undefeated and ranked number 3, and there were 8 players on the team before Saban got there who ended getting drafted, including Andre Smith, Javiar Arenas and Glen Coffee.

You forgot that lovely performance against Utah in the Sugar Bowl. I have never seen a Miles team perform that badly, especially in a bowl game.

Haven't read the whole thread, so I'm not sure if this has been said.

Bama has played smarter in that they have not scheduled Oregon and WV out of conference. They are smart enough to realize that they don't have to do that to win a NC.

Big deal. They schedule smarter. And our coach has LESTICLES.

This.

And until Miles beat Saban last year, there was a large contingent of Rantards slobbing Saban's knob and screaming for Miles to be fired.

And they'll probably go right back to it if Miles gets beat soundly by Saban this year if they're not too busy gathering up the wood to crucify JJ for the audacity of returning to the team.

It is what it is.

Miles don't give a shite. Hatter gonna keep on hatting.

To the contrary, I can see a scenario where LSU's only loss is in a close game in Tuscaloosa but Alabama get's upset on the road and again the SEC Championship game.....and LSU sneaks into the NC game on strength of schedule.

Fewer penalties, fewer missed asignments, fewer quizzical play calls, less dubious clock management, generally more discipline and focus.

Clearly this is the subjective opinion. Can you provide objective facts to back it up?

Bama's favorite thing to do is pressure and drop back into a soft zone, adjusting the zones to the routes.

Very precise, and thats why we need a mobile quarterback with speed in this situation. Name will not play the soft zone as much. I guess you coached before!

However, last minute wins at TN and Florida have yet to dispel this notion. It's real hard to get rid of impressions.

No fricking way are you going to bring up TN game as an example of good time management.

It is just Cowherd's opinion that Bama plays smarter than LSU. I heard him today that LSU is a great example of a team that knows how to step up and win in big game opportunities, giving us some love vs teams that choke, ie Boston last night. Who gives a crap, I expect Bama will be favored at home unless they drop a game to Florida on Sat. It will all play out in the end. I am looking forward to it all!!

Probably because for the last three years this has been true. They're in for a surprise this year, though.

Have you missed the Les Miles' tenure? It's not that crazy of a statement.

I've seen his tenure. It is a crazy statement. Les Miles flat out wins. Period. Think about this, how many games has Les Miles' teams been unprepared for and it showed? I can think of maybe one, Georgia in the SEC champ. game. It could be argued that we played 11 weeks in a row. Thats tough. How about everyone's good ole boy Saban? Remember going to Georgia in 04 and getting our asses handed to us 45-16? How about UAB? UAB should never be on the same field with LSU. Sabans teams were too often not prepared to win. Les Miles is one of the best in the business. Anyone that believes otherwise, is a moron. The proof is on the field. If you don't think Miles is any good by now, you never will. Oh yea, those kids love playing for him, and lay it all on the line every week. They never give up. You can't coach that. Miles just has it.

I haven't watched Bama much yet, but LSU seems to do a good. Job of carrying out their schemes on both. Sides of the ball. They seem to be playing smart football as far. As I can tell, although the defense was a little off aagainst. WVU in the 2nd half.

Saban has won 2 of the last 3 West Titles. He went 2 straight SEC regular seasons and never lost a game. Les at best right now has some 2 loss seasons and as great a start as this year is we have won nothing yet. Calm down. When Les gets back on top this year he will his hype too. This is a big year for Les. He has to win the West or this year is a disappointment
