Les Miles has been the coach for 12 fricking years.

That's an eternity in college football. Especially considering the high stakes of the SEC and the performance expected out of the LSU football program. It's not like they've gone through a ton of head coaches.

They're acting like LSU will fire someone at the drop of a hat and it might scare away new coaches.

Would love to see the list of schools that fired a head coach since the last time LSU had prior to Miles

That's true. Saban wasn't fired. He left.

LSU hasn't fired a head coach in 17 years when Dinardo was fired in 1999.

Of the four of them, Kirk, Lee, and Desmond all came out positive on the move. Rece was the only one who had something negative to say about LSU and Alleva. Go figure, he is a Bama grad...

It doesn't answer the firing question because coaches leave for other reasons, but going in to the season Stoops, Patterson, and Ferentz were the only coaches in FBS with a longer tenure than Les.

Coaches have seen LSU, they understand what happened.

Since '99? Off the top of my head...schools that HAVEN'T fired their coach in that time frame are VT (Beamer retired), Oklahoma, and Iowa.

Meanwhile on SEC Nation, Finebaum, who had been calling for Les to go for weeks, slams LSU for firing Miles.

Maybe because the fan base is already committed to dumping the current head coach before he even coaches a single game?

Think about it.

Rece is also the guy on set who is told to drive discussion. That's his job.

Again, though, if we learned anything from last year it's that LSU shouldn't care about anyone but LSU. Do what you gotta do.

It's all just talk they are paid to do it. They are not reporters they are paid to try to start news not report it. Ignore it they move on soon enough.

it's the story man. each media outlet (or individual) comes up with a story to sell. that story must attract viewers. the "truth" is lost in that seedy version of journalism.

but, it is what it is. LSU is the news right now;it'll be another school before long and these attention whores will create their 'story" for the next school.

Because it's a story, the media is usually predictable. If it's creates a demand for their product then they will report it/support it/ create it!!

I would argue LSU is more committed to the Head Coach position than most programs in the country. Les was given a ton of support over the years, was one of the longest tenures in CFB in today's environment. LSU usually gives every coach the chance to succeed, unlike USC, Texas, etc!

This^

If Orgeron salvages the season, why wouldn't he be given the job permanently? Being from Louisiana, and having originally committed to LSU out of high school, you won't find a guy who loves the school more. He's an ace recruiter and probably deserved the job at USC after the job he did as interim when Kiffin was fired. But Pat Haden would frick up a wet dream and it seems that Alleva may be a kindred spirit in that regard. Just seems that most LSU fans want a "name" coach and while that's understandable to a degree, the best fit for the job may already be on the sidelines.

I think I'd be a little concerned about taking a job where the previous person was fired after being one of the top performers in that position ever. Who had no outside issues that impacted the change and had never had a losing record.

Yes, other schools have replaced coaches but I wonder how many have gotten rid of coaches who have never had a losing season and never ended with lower than 8-5.

I'm OK with replacing Miles, just don't like the optics of how it was done and lets see what the change brings.

When a team is getting great recruiting classes every year, 8-5 is not good enough.

Considering you are guaranteed 4 wins when you play Sam Houston, UL Monroe, New Mexico State, and Kentucky....

That means they went 4-5 in the "real" games. That's not good.

That means there are 9 "real" games. You only have to go 3-6 in those games to have a winning record of 7-6.

You'd have to be an absolutely horrible team to not finish with a winning record. LSU can win 7 games on raw talent alone.
