Just did browsing before the draft trying to read up on different team needs and what not, anyway Dallas fans really hate Claiborne and Browns fans really hate Mingo. What gives? I remember both of these guys being beasts for LSU.

They've been solid in the NFL
Saints should take a look

Obligatory "NOLA hates LSU"

Claiborne could definitely be an upgrade from Browner

Dallas runs a zone scheme with their DBs and their pass rush has been nonexistent.

Mingo was forced into a OLB position when he's clearly a WDE.

Great players in the wrong systems.

Same reason why a 7th round pic out of hofstra became the all time receiver for the saints. The draft is a crap shoot at best.

A mixture of personal failings and schematic misfits.

You take a press man guy in college and make him a cover two squatter on a team with no pass rush. You take an undersized end with speed and make him cover backs and tight ends. Then you wonder why those guys aren't producing like they did in college.

Add to that that Mingo had a serious shoulder injury, Claiborne has had a bunch of serious injuries, Mingo can't keep weight on, and Claiborne didn't appear motivated for large parts of his early career.

This is another thing, peoples bodies don't hold up as well as others.

And I don't fault mo, he got his money, he made it. For some, that's all it was about. Not the love of the game, but as their best opportunity to make money. Less motivation now.

Really? Didn't know this either.

Scheme. Playing out of position and not to their strengths I think is a big part.

It's not necessarily that the draft is a crap shoot. Rather, it's all a matter of being in the right place on the right team. I doubt anyone ever knows of Marcus Colston if he never played for the Saints. He was just fortunate to be drafted by a team with a creative HC, a HOF QB and no megastar WR at the time. Right place, Right time.

Claiborne might have been an all-pro if he played for someone with a front 7 like Carolina/Denver last season or the 49ers from a few years back. Maybe more than any other sport, it takes good teammates to make a great NFL player.

Mingo production in college didnt match his draft selection.
Have no clue on Mo. Thought he was going to be a stud.

Mingo is in a shitty situation. Claiborne showed improvement last season but was still underwhelming. From what I've watched, Claiborne seemed to have mental issues to execute their scheme.

Mingo was just a freak athlete with hardly any pass rushing moves or ability.

College tape screams that.

Unfortunately, he went to a team that could not help him develop him at all in Cleveland

Claiborne was drafted by a team that at the time was a cover 2 team your corners are basically zone type small safeties and he's a man corner since then it's been injuries and friction with the staff. Mingo just needs to be in a better place Cleveland is a graveyard and it's hard to progress there.

Mingo got no arse . Can't play D in the league at 220ish. Will be hard pressed to get another nice contract . Mo has shown he can lay and will have 10 yrs in league before he's done

They just didn't fit the defensive system. I hope to see Mingo purely used as a OLB pass rusher and Mo in a man-based coverage system.

Some Dallas fans may hate him, I don't and 99% of other Cowboy fans I know don't either.

Mingo has always been too skinny. I have the same concern for Key.

Because CPM is the worst coach ever and we have a pitcher coaching 3rd base.
