I think that Blue should get 18.

7? I'm in the "nobody this year" camp

I'm more concerned with developing a modern offense and winning games

Exactly.

I don't worry about who's wearing what number.

That is definitely not true about 18. Does not have to be a senior.

#7 goes to a NEW stud DB. Loston should not get it because he had a different number ever since being at LSU. It is not a number that gets swapped.

#18 goes to someone who is an upperclassman that shows leadership. It is not necessarily someone with the most talent, but someone who works hard and is looked up to by his teammates.

Blue gets my vote for 18. If White is the next superstar in the secondary, then he gets my vote.

this is as dumb a response as is possible. it assumes that, somehow, a team tradition, albeit these are recent new traditions, somehow detracts from "developing a modern offense and winning games."

the point of 18 is to publicly acknowledge a player who has put in the work and demonstrated a commitment to the team. it seems to me that this ethic is conducive to fielding a team capable of winning games. right?

and 7 has been given to players with flare and excellent performance, which also seems conducive to winning games. several recruits have also suggested that they should get the number 7 in the future, so it seems like a good recruiting tool, as well.

cheers to you if you don't care about the numbers, but feeling the need to shite on something that has zero effect on your fanhood is just petulant and unnecessary.

crawl back under your rock and spare us from your "I know what's best for LSU football" attitude. it's an offseason thread. get over it.

I don't think #7 is given to anyone. It was chosen by two players. Without knowing the process, I assume that players pick jersey #s based on seniority and whoever wants a number can take it if not chosen by someone else. If people think Miles is holding onto the apparently coveted #7 jersey to bestow it onto a player is ridiculous. The last guy who wore it was kicked off the team.

It doesn't have to go to a senior. Not sure where this started but it's incorrect.

Mauck was a junior.
Hester was a freshman.
Dickson was a junior if memory serves.
Murphy was a senior.
Taylor was a senior.
Logan was a junior.

I didn't mean to suggest that 7 is a number bestowed like an award by miles. But suggesting that the number is tainted because Mathieu was kicked off the team is just as ridiculous as its bestowal being a tradition.

Amuck had it as a freshman in 2000-2001
Leblanc had it before then.

Until Hester left it went to a freshman who wore it for their lsu career.

for you young men and women who werent around when bert jones wore number 7, there is not a scout, coach or gm who given the choice between jones and peterson at the same age-would choose jones every time.
