2. 7 is for a DB

Not necessarily. Highsmith was a LB and was 7 before PP. But I think it needs to stay in the lockerroom another year before a true superstar emerges on defense.

JC doesn't have the demeanor warranted to wear 18. I could see Freak wearing it since he will be the new leader of the Defense. I'll even throw a vote out to Travis Dickson for the privilege to wear 18.

and before him Trev Faulk.. and before that Steve Rehage and before him James Gillyard

ETA: I'd like to see Freak wear 18 and Loston 7.. hopefully in the future a Peterson will be wearing it again.

Loston should wear No.18 just as Brandon Taylor did in 2011, but nobody among DBs is good enough to wear No.7 IMO.

#7 can (and hopefully will) go to Loston. senior leader in a defensive back field full of young blood. and give #18 to either Blue or Copeland.

those are the only 3 guys worthy of wearing those two numbers on their jerseys.

IMO.

PP made it a DB number and passed it down, that's why I say that

IMO:

7 goes to Micah Eugene

18 goes to Freak

21 goes to Tre White, 21 becomes the new stud DB number after he leaves...

7 is best DB, but has to be a freak. We are recruiting some freaks at the position and have Tre White coming in.

18 is upperclassman leader

7 isn't anything. It was a number chosen by a player who was an All-American and then claimed by another amazing player who idolized him. It was passed on between two players over the course of 4-5 years. There's no tradition there. PP was great, but I remember Mealey, Gulyard on the DL and Highsmith in that jersey. You people are reading way to much into this "tradition." 18 may have something there, but as of now, it's tenuous at best. Once it's around 20+ years then sure, but Hester graduated like 5 years ago so it could fizzle out as easily as it could stick.

I like it personally.

Ali Highsmith was no pushover.

I like how it's a special thing with the players.

I'm not sure why people think #7 is a number being passed down. Mathieu just wanted to wear it after PP7, and that is where it ended.

I'm not sure if we have a player worthy of 18.

Alfred blue could certainly have first choice.

As far as 7 goes, boy I bet PP is proud.
