This was one of my first LSU games as a kid. I was raised in the Midwest so we typically hit any away games up our way (UK and Vandy mostly). We visited the College Football HOF, which was really cool. I also remember walking through an area of tailgating ND college students and name-calling one of them a "drunk-o" for taunting my Dad. In hindsight, I'm sure it was harmless banter and surely no worse than I behaved as a student. Fun times.

I went on a charter plane with a large group from Lafayette
we flew up to Midway, rode a bus into the Magnificent Mile area and stayed downtown.

That evening we ate dinner at Mike Ditka's restaurant and walked around the area.

The next day we caught a commuter train to South Bend. The ride was a LOT longer than we anticipated. We get to the train station and rode a bus to the campus.

The campus was very pretty, it wasn't very cold while the sun was out. I walked to the Grotto and watched the ND Band do their pregame concert.

We went to the stadium and I remember how little tail gating they did. The few people that did tailgate had very small and simple setups. It was very much like a pro football parking lot tail gate scene.

The stadium was undergoing renovations so a lot of the outside part of it was torn up. Inside the stadium it was kind of surprising how flat the stadium is meaning the top row of the seats seems REALLY far from the field for a one level stadium. As the game went on and the shadow crawled across the field it got really cold.

The game was very exciting, our seats were in the Hesburgh Library (Touchdown Jesus) endzone about 10 rows up with the press box to our right. The Mark Roman pick six and the KFaulk fumble return TD came right at us and the KFaulk KO return TD started right in front of us and went to the opposite end zone.

The Herb Tyler pick six happened right in front of us and when he threw it I remembering saying NOOOOOO

The end of the game, ND screwed up the clock management and elected to take a safety in the end zone in front of us instead of punting from their own 10. Jarrious Jackson was supposed to take the snap and kneel in the end zone for a safety and as he did it he got clocked and hurt his knee.

we then went back to the train station and rode the train back to Chicago. We didnt have anything to drink or eat before or during the train trip and it took two hours to get back. we went out that night in the Magnificent Mile and got pretty drunk, the next day was Sunday and I walked to Nike Town. We went to Midway, got on the charter flight and were back in Lafayette for Sunday evening.

this was easily a top 3 trip

Yep, went to that one. Had just moved to Michigan. Fun time but atmosphere was less than anticipated. Same with Michigan games but have learned just to keep that to myself. They'll never understand or agree. Waste of energy.

I was there. Sat by the Mealey family. They talked about the coaching the whole game. They were not happy.

Nall to booty just missing or Jennings to Quinn just missing. Which one was more frustrating?

I was there with my brother who is an ND grad. Two memories stick with me:

1. Before the game, an ND fan behind us asked if I thought Faulk was all that great. I said that I did, and he kind of shook it off. Right after his kickoff return TD, I turned and said, "See?". He said, "Wow, you were right."

2. All through the 4th quarter, the Tiger defense would hold the Irish to negative yards on first and second down, but when the teams lined up for the third down, I would turn to my brother and told him which ND receiver would be open for the first down. It was so easy to see how poor that defense was. Even up 13 points, I was never comfortable with the lead, and sadly, I was right.

One slight, their women didn't compare with the women of the sec schools but in their defense it was extremely cold so they were covered up. They don't wear make up like our southern women do either.

I can attest to this. We went up there twice - 85' and 98'. Both times we asked bartenders where the good looking women were. Both times, the answer was, "You left them in Louisiana". He was right.

Both games were awesome, though. Wickersham sat beside us on the flight home in 85' as he had to stay a day later due to breaking the completion record against ND at home when he went 31/42 for 294. He hit Garry James late in the game to win it 10-7. Also remember Faulk in 98' pacing back and forth, waiting on the kickoff after his fumble. Dude would not be denied.

I was there. That hit on Jarious Jackson cost ND a BCS bowl. I think Reggie Robinson was held on the final Hail Mary. I believed.

I was there with a buddy from work who got us free tix and tailgate with vendor. Flew into Chicago. My first experience with beer brats.

Game memories include sitting in EZ that faces TD Jesus, watching Kevin Faulk return kickoff for TD running right towards our seats, and Nall coming in off the bench to try and win the game.

That game about summed up the season. We averaged about 36 ppg on Off, but gave up about 38 ppg on Def. F'ING LOU TEPPER!

I attended both LSU vs ND games in 1997, and I traveled to South Bend for sight seeing at the College Football Hall of Fame, we also walked around ND's campus, and snuck into the football stadium in 2006.

Am I allowed in this thread?

I was there. Campus was nice but it was too cold to enjoy it. Snowed all weekend in Chicago so that part sucked too. The stadium is garbage though.

I was there. I noticed the atmosphere was much different then an LSU home game. Sat in the north end zone on the wooden bleachers. Got very cold once the hazy sun went down on the west side of the stadium. ND crowd was non-existent until the 4th qtr when they cranked it up a bit. Remember the pitiful defense we had on 3rd downs, Abram Booty had a great game and so did the magnificent Keven Faulk. Great seeing such a historic college venue. I think Lambeau will be just as historic to see.

I was there. My brother wore his typical tacky tiger vest suit complete with tiger tail. We passed a black Notre Dame fan walking with his family and as we passed I heard the man say to his family " You see that? That's why the south don't get no respect. They should have never let that man leave the house!"
I still laugh when I think about that.
Different type of fans those Notre Dame folks.

I was there. I had a kidney stone attack during the second half but stayed until the end. The kidney stone made the 2 hour drive back to Chicago a bitch. I was supposed to be on my batchelor party but my buddies had to go without me. Didn't pass the stone until the next morning. Definitely a trip I won't forget.

I went too.

Funny thing... one of my cousins worked for Dow in Midland, Michigan. He had to fly to Houston out of Chicago on Continental. The flight attendant told everyone that there was NO alcohol on the plane because it just came up from Houston full of LSU fans and they drank all of it on the flight. They only replenished the supply at their home base in Houston. My cousin was upset with me for several months because there was a lot of turbulence and he needed a drink to calm his nerves... lol
