re: Where do you expect Laird to be in 3-5 years?

Son of a bitch some of you people are stupid. Altuve is obviously better than laird the only reason I mentioned altuve is because he hits for high average and doesn't have much power. If laird can hit for a high average he does not need power. Nobody can predict what anyone on at Lsu will do at the next level but it seams like everyone who is considering leaving early are the worst players in all of college. Some of you guys (not specifically you MOT) really need to look at things from another point of view like how the athlete or coach sees things.

lol AAA players make about 12k a year. That's not enough to pay your bills on and you will definitely have to find another job.

Frick you. I'm sorry laird chose to bring his horrible talents to Lsu. We would have been much better without him these last 3 years

He could easily add 20 lbs to his frame and gain enough power to be respectable. I think he has a good enough bat to flirt with .300. He seems to get better every year, I don't believe he has peaked.

lack of proper perspective is someone's problem in this thread...

Teaching softball players how to be a slapper

I just hope he's smart and gives LSU another year
Maybe put on another 5-7 pounds of muscle, get a little stronger.
He's a great player and I hope he is able to make a career of baseball but I don't like his odds.

Laird is a great college player and unfortunately he will not make it at the next level. He has one tool-speed. His swing will not work at the next level. He needs to play his senior year and graduate and if he wants to make a run in the minors than do so, but if you follow baseball you know there is so much talent out there and it's not an easy road. The draft will be interesting this year......
Mitchell is now in AA due to a slow start in AAA this season including 20 Ks in 40 AB. I thought he had a legitimate shot and you see he's still fighting to get to the bigs.

hitting a curveball comes to mind.

Talking about his playing days at LSU around the water cooler with co-workers. Laird's baseball skills are not good enough at this point to garner much interest from major league scouts. And he doesn't have athleticism that teams will take a chance on hoping the baseball skills will develop.

I've not noticed anyone saying they don' like Laird or think he is a terrible college player. He is a great college player who's skills are not going to match up with what you need at the next level. If he was RH and played 2B I would be more likely to think he has a chance, but when you make a John Jay's arm look like Vladamir Guerrero's it probably isn't going to go in your favor

I don't know about 3-5 years but he needs to be in a weight room today.

He has zero pop in his bat and his arm is average.
Not many guys like him in the bigs.
Um what? Pretty much every team carries a 4th/5th outfielder who has no pop.

I think he'll get a signing bonus, may not be much though.
ETA: All of you with the Mitchell comparisons, Jared hasn't been the same since his tendon tear 5 years ago.

All he will make is a signing bonus-- maybe
75K-100K tops. Then play for 25K-30K
Salary(maybe)--- in front of small crowds
-- living out of a suitcase -- with endless
bus rides---
He needs to stay in school for his senior year---enjoy
the moment--- get his degree.
Baseball will not FEED him.
His EDUCATION will.

25K-30K?
It's $1100 a month only when you are in season to start. If he somehow makes it to AA or AAA it's slightly more.
You are projecting a little high on the signing bonus, but who knows. A few teams may really like him and throw 50K-100K his way.

I think Laird comes back at this point. Stevenson, not sure, but I hope they do. I can see Chinea leaving and Bregman is gone. Everyone else we lose will be due to not having more eligibility. Having Laird and Stevenson with Fraley back next season would be phenomenal for this team.

Bottom line baseball won't FEED them.
Stay in school. $1100/ month is minimum
wage--- Did I mention STAY IN SCHOOL.
