These Thursday starts frick us however, it is not uncommon for 4-5 days rest for average pitchers.

That's a cause for concern, considering he never threw below 93 before tonight.

So you worried? I fricking told you this about a month to worry about him hitting a wall, but you and your cohort Ell told me I have no idea what I am talking about. Why are you so shocked? Kid has never thrown the amount of innings he is about to throw. This was bound to happen. Gotta hope he gets past it.

I've always been weary of the freshman wall, so no you didn't tell me anything. Please go back and link that thread and I'll prove it.

I'm glad we didn't change Poche and him like some chicken littles wanted or we could be 1-1 heading into the third game. Maybe they should move Lange too Sunday with all the problems he's been having. Give him another day of rest.

I wouldn't be nearly as concerned if this team weren't so dependent on him. The young man is having a fantastic season, but to be counted on as the ace already for the number 1 team in the country is tremendous pressure.

If we can keep winning, he can take another week off as far as I'm concerned.

Learn to respond to the right guy, chief.

Yep, I'd be ok with this.

He's a freshman. Let him develop.

That's why I'm worried.

If his arm is tired, he shouldn't have thrown 100+ pitches tonight.

Its definitely concerning. Anyone who says it isnt, is lying to themselves.

I'd be fine with pushing him back to a Sunday start, or him completely skipping another start if he doesn't show improvement next week.

His velocity was down in the UGA series as well. Brought that up this morning. Got ignored.

He would've pitched last night had last weekend not gotten screwed up. And moving him to Sunday's will only "give him an extra day of rest" once. And if he gets moved to Sunday, who throws on Saturdays?

I'm not even sure why I'm asking because that's not happening...

It's amazing that so many people in this thread don't think it's a big deal that the velocity dropped that much.

That's what everyone I've talked to who was at the game is saying. In fact, none of them even mentioned a drop in velocity at the time.

ETA: Not saying it didn't happen though. The walks and errors were more harmful IMO.

Someone tweeted about him hitting 89 in the last inning. Every time I looked up he was around the 92-93 mark.

Is it something to keep an eye on? Sure. To be worried about? No IMO.

Agreed. I think you may be talking about a Trey Mongrue's tweet, and if so don't believe anything he tweeted tonight. He was fricking high or drunk.

It started out at 92-91, touched 93 a couple of times, then it gradually regressed to 91-90 and by his last inning he was mostly at 89.

It's alarming because before tonight, he never dropped below 92 in previous home starts (not sure what his velo was for Bama & UGA). Before, he was mostly 95-93 and wouldn't drop in the later innings. Again, if this was an anomaly of a game fine, but this tweet had me thinking about this before the game:

quote:

Trey Mongrue @TreyMongrue
Alex Lange's K/9 in first 7 outings: 11.6

Last 2 outings: 4.6. #LSU

I don't know, I just don't think all of these events (missed start, velocity, etc.) are coincidental incidents.
