Footwork or confidence?

These 2 to me seem to be the biggest things he needs to work on. I think the confidence comes simply from completing a few passes and starting to get into a rhythm.

Footwork, though, is the biggest thing I think he needs to improve on. He's not stepping up into the pocket or sliding in the pocket and feeling the pass rush.

Also, I'll say that I've still got hope that he can get it together and play solid football. I do believe he's at his best when he's rolling out to his right.

His inability to follow his progressions is his number 1 problem. If the first receiver he looks at isn't open, he starts looking to run.

His accuracy is pretty bad too. Too many balls, even those that are caught, are thrown high or low. He almost got Ridley killed Saturday night because of this.

he basically possesses none of the skills you want in your starting qb

I think it is confidence and the coaching staff putting him in plays to be successful.

I thought he played well in the 1st half last week.

CONFIDENCE. He is miserable out there. He is not having fun at all.

The fact that he feels satisfied with his play. By far the biggest problem.

CONFIDENCE. He is miserable out there. He is not having fun at all.

This is what I have maintained all along since early last season. He just doesn't seem to enjoy playing to me.

I don't think that he has any issues. He has the job sewn up, no matter how he performs. Oh I suppose that he has the issue of being irritated by fans, but that's about it.

He doesn't have a good throwing motion, his footworks sucks, and he can not read defenses. Other than that he's good.

It's his internal clock in the pocket, pocket presence, inaccurate on the move. Add all that up and he doesn't have it! He can't pass from the pocket so they roll him out but then becomes inaccurate. Lose lose situation

awareness, confidence, comfort, etc. it's like he can't deal with the pressures confronting him. the pressures of the coaches, the media, the fans, the opposing defenses.

This.

The big windup Jefferson takes when he throws the ball gives defenders more time to react, and the ball reaches the receiver that much longer after Jefferson decides to deliver the ball. The pressure on him to make a quick read is much greater because of his mechanics. That said, Jefferson has been at LSU three years so these things aren't news. I think he is capable enough for LSU's offense to be more productive than it has been, but the coaches seem content with trying to jam a square peg into a round hole as far as gameplanning. Option football anyone?

I wish it was simple as your question states. There's not much that he IS doing well so the issue is Jefferson in general. He's staring down his receivers, he's looking to run as soon as he drops back, and he's been inaccurate with simple short passes. I'm not trying to pile on JJ. I've seen him play better than this but something is terribly wrong and his constant decline in performance is evidence of that. I watched the game again last night and he looks so uncomfortable playing the game right now that it's actually sad to watch. He's never been a good QB in my opinion but he's definitely been serviceable and played with confidence in the past. There's no excuse for not letting Lee take half the snaps in these games. There's no way Lee is playing worse than JJ in practice. It's simply impossible. I'm not a coach and I learn new things about this game every weekend but I've seen other coaches in this situation and they made changes or adjustments before the situation worsens. Giving Lee some playtime may not solve our problems but it sure as hell won't make things worse.
