I sure hope he can salvage his career, hopefully sign with another team. Don't know what $$ he received from signing on with the Texans, but I would suggest he use that to go back to school and finish getting his degree. But then, did he ever really intend to get a degree?

Thought I remember him saying going into his last season that he was only 45 hours short of his degree

Sam brought it on himself by reporting out of shape and then being unfortunate to get an ankle sprain which further hindered him. The violating team rules(smoking weed) seems to have been bogus as he passed an independent drug test a couple of days later.

But he is a prime example of what I have said to all these idiots who say about players who leave early, "How can you expect them to pass up all that money!". His signing bonus was $506, 000. He lasted about two months with the team and maybe got another $50,000 in paychecks. $556,000 of which after agent percentage and taxes he maybe had $310,000. Wonder how much of that is left?

Come on now idiot. All Sam needs is to get back in shape and dedicate himself, dude will have practices with teams next summer. It's been one year.

What's so funny is these "fans" who say, hey, you should stay at school your senior year and have pride and love it". How can anybody love it when his fans start this bullshite after one setback? Same idiots who mouth off about "class" soon forget that they don't have it themselves. Hypocrite mothafrickas.

He redshirted and in his first starting year, he played the first 4 games totaling 18 tackles and two sacks (as a redshirt freshman, better than anything we have this year). Tore his ACL and was out for the rest of the year. Next year he notches 49 tackles 13.5 tackles for loss, and 9 sacks. Last year, 37 tackles 13.0 tackles for loss, 8 sacks.

Dude was consistent and constantly crashed the pocket and rolled the QB to Mingo's side. Mingo was actually weaker his final year in impact and stats, but we like to blame Montgomery because he doesn't get the flashy plays. Blame him because we "think" he's regressed. Sonic had one problem, and that was being the last off the line. His reaction time was not as quick as the others, nor was his speed, but his strength and technique was unmatched on the line, and created havoc so other guys could make the play. He could actually stop a RB instead of running pass him a lot (Mingo). People get googly eyed on the speed and long frame of Mingo, but he was nothing more than a speed pass rusher. A damn good one, but none the less, he was not well rounded.

I loved to see Mingo fly into the backfield but the way some people treat Sam for not having that Sam speed, pisses me off. Sam was fast his redshirt year. Injury happen, and he lost a step. I hope like hell he gets back on the gridiron and starts because he was my favorite player with his passion, ferociousness, and liveliness on the field.

I wasn't one of the ones putting Sam down or making fun of him. He was a good tiger. I was putting down the posters on here who think athlete's automatically are rolling in money just because they get drafted in the second or later round. Everything I said was fact not opinion. I hope that what you said actually comes true for Sam and that he does get on with a team next year but it is a hard thing to do.

There are thousands of great athlete's and football players who have the dream of playing in the NFL each year but there are only spots for so many. If you were such a big fan of Sam's then why wouldn't you have wanted him to come back for his senior year so you could watch him some more? I don't want athlete's to come back because they owe the school or fans. I want them to come back so they can get their degree and hopeully mature some more so they can be better prepared for a pro career.

Sam was a lot of fun to watch at LSU. I hope he gets another opportunity to play in the league. He has the ability.
If not, I hope he succeeds at whatever he decides to do.

Hope Sam gets another opportunity.

He was a great player for LSU and we should all wish the best for these young men who had the choice of any school in the country yet chose to come play in the great state of Louisiana.

Thanks Big Sam for the passion you brought to Tiger Stadium and all the punishment you took and dished out on behalf of Louisiana State University. We all wish you the best in facing all of life's challenges and you will always be a great Tiger.

That or some bitter old farts.

Guy played for LSU. Played hard for LSU. Made a mistake or two. Has some baggage he is dealing with in his life like most of us are and doing the best he can.

Difference in Sam and TM7...One was a hard worker and one was not. Similarities in Sam and TM7...both love that weed. TM7 gets the benefit because he was never a slacker on the field or in the weightroom. Sam, well, not so much.

We won them. He played hard when it mattered. I'm no fan of him admitting taking plays off, but it's not like he cost us the Bama or Florida games. As a matter of fact, the D in the Florida game was amazing. Clemson? Don't really give a frick about what he did in a meaningless bowl game, but he played hard against his home state school.

No need to bash this kid, at all. What he does in his professional career is his business.

He actually passed a drug test, he took on his own. I think the Texans are just a mess this year, and made a lot of stupid decisions. clean

Being confused in life in general, dude isn't a bad guy but you could convince him to try a scratch and sniff sticker at the bottom of the deep end.....

from what I can tell the Houston Texans are an absolute train wreck this season. This makes them getting rid of SM not look as bad for SM.

I loved watching the guy play. Whenever he made a stop in the backfield, seeing the guy amped up like he would get would only get me even more amped. It was awesome to see. Sometimes it seemed like the dude was the only one playing with any real grit and determination on last year's defense too. I promise you, if he would have kept his damned mouth shut about "taking plays off" he would be looked at in a COMPLETELY different light compared to now. Everyone would only remember him for his consistency and energy he brought.

I hate it that he has to go through this kind of a situation when in fact he truly was a GREAT LSU Tiger.

It does suck that he still has at least 3 semesters left to earn his degree at LSU. Hopefully everything works out for him though.
