What I expect going forward from our passing game

LSU is going to be a run first team, with very very very good reason. Fournette is a monster and will gain a ton of attention from every defense we face.

In previous seasons teams loaded up the box because we were incapable of passing the football. We had good running backs, but no Leonard Fournette. Now safeties will have to cheat up to play the run, in hopes of just containing Fournette. That leaves CBs one on one with a very very very talented receiving corps. Those CBs will most likely have to play way off the line because they will have no help over the top. That gives us the ability to dump short passes off at will. Corners come up and try to jam us and they get burnt deep. This will help Harris gain a ton of confidence I think. Instead of our pass opening up the run, our run is going to open up the pass.

I'm trying not to get overly excited....but damn I really love this team. And that defense

150 yards 3 TDs and 0 turnovers, I'll accept it from a QB.

You could tell the team worked on the short passing game last week. It looked like the work paid off during the game.

Harris is good but he still has some work to do. He was sailing a lot of balls.

Eventually we will need to throw the ball to win. Let's hope that the coaches give BH a chance to get comfortable before we need to rely on him to win a game for us.

The Auburn defenders were playing at least 5 yards off the ball, sometimes further. I agree with the other poster though, Harris did miss on a few throws you would hope he would make. He is a true sophomore though, and just taking care of the football needs to be priority number 1...and he's doing that.

Teams are going to have to FORCE us to throw it. That's going to be very very very hard to do with Fournette. I have confidence that our WRs are certainly good enough to make teams pay for putting 8-9 in the box when we have to throw, and in Harris' ability to keep them honest enough with the pass to reopen our running game again.

The key for this LSU team is to never get behind to the point that we HAVE to pass and can't run. Don't see that happening with this defense though.

He also made a couple of great throws. The TD to Jeter was perfect. The long pass up the sideline that Dupre dropped was perfect also. Verne and Gary were very impressed with that one.

Disagree with this... we need Harris to make plays to keep the defense from focusing completely on Fournette.

It's completely realistic that he could do this with his legs. He's fast enough to cause serious problems on keepers, and that would loosen up the defense. You spread the defense out, even horizontally, and I think Fournette and this line could win against anyone.

I must admit that I didn't even know who Jeter was before this game.

Harris tried to get him killed though.

His short stuff looks great. His long stuff needs some refinement, but those are the hardest throws to make.

They are going to take it slow with him. People need to just deal with it.

How many all-word defenses do we have left to play?

Florida has a good defense, but I don't see them scoring more than 17 if they are lucky. Bama and Ole Miss will be respectable, but they both exposed each others defense last night.

Fournette is not our only weapon in the backfield, there are a couple of other contributors, including Harris. He is a legitimate run threat. His best runs are when he is eventually flushed and the field is open. He is also getting better at sensing the pressure - how many times has he been sacked so far - once or twice. He has had great protection from the big boys up front. I think he played great and look forward to seeing him get better.

With Dillon Gordon banged up I think they work out of the spread formations more with Smith at TE and some split back sets with Guice. I expect to see more work put in on the passing game over the next 2 games.

I think the defense is good, but not elite, not enough depth yet.

Happy with Harris so far, but there will be a game or two when he has to make the thtows to win the game. That will be the difference. Believe it or not, Leonard will be slowed in a game or two.

Yes LF is not the only weapon in the backfield especially on jet sweep motions with Dural/Jackson. With that motion, the defense has to have an assignment for the sweep as well as the QB freeing up space for LF. It's triple option football.

12-17 with two drops. Not too shabby.

He just needs to reign in those deeper throws some.

The good news for LSU fans is that BH is who we hoped he would be. He is going to be a good one no doubt.
