they need to move Divinity back to OLB

This is what will happen. Delpit will move back replacing Harris along with Stevens. Brooks will move into Delpit/Stevens role and Divinity will be bringing the heat from the outside. We are just fine at ILB with Queen and Phillips. Man to man defense from here on out with a lot of exotic blitzes. If our DBs are as good as we think they are then we will be just fine going man to man.

Sure we might give up a play here and there but we have to generate a pass rush. Moving Chaisson around as well will be the key. Man I know Devonta Lee wants to play offense but this dude would be a stud on the defensive side! White 2.0!

I would guess it has a lot to do with the type of coverage we've been playing. I'm still trying to figure out why we decided to play 5 yards off the slot receiver and just allow other teams to decimate us with quick drags and slants. You can't expect a DB to cover those routes when he's 5-6 yards back off the receiver because if a receiver cuts inside immediately off the LOS then that DB is already fricked. You can't react fast enough since the ball is only traveling 7 yards total. If a team is going to consistently run those plays then you have to move up and jam that receiver and throw him off his route. You can play off the outside receivers much easier since you have more time to react to a pass that has to travel 20 yards. It seems we have the opposite going on where we're pressing up on the outside receivers and playing back off the slot and it makes zero sense to me. Ed even mentioned in his press conference this week that we were playing too far off the receivers so I expect that to be one of the changes that will take away some of the quick passing game that's been a problem so far.

I could see us going to a Grantham type defense we’re we send blitzes up the middle relentlessly. It was pretty obvious the other night against NSU that thier quarterback was going to have the ball out before anyone was getting around the edge, but we magically did better when we had inside pressure because that meant the QB had to move around and delay his throw for even 1-2 seconds. QB’s are doing all their work against LB’s, Safeties and Nickels, so it’s pretty obvious we’d do better getting the QB outside where throws to the middle of the field are way more dangerous.

Just my two cents, I think we’re going to start stunting and sending backers up the middle.

One thing we have going for us is that we know Aranda isn't sitting on his arse and he will have this figured out! The only thing that scares me is if we continue to get hit with injuries along the DL. I'm just praying we are giving them a rest until Florida.

We are sending 4, we have LBs to cut the quick underneath stuff. We are suffering from terrible DE and LB play more than we are suffering from poor defensive backfield play in my opinion.

They are damn near interchangeable. Logan is just about the only player that takes care of business every day. Lawrence is good on the 10% of time that he is healthy.

Chaisson got absolutely mauled against Texas! That fricking OT ended up doing him in because he pulled his arse to the ground so many damn times!

I agree that the LBs should be cutting off the quick underneath routes but have they? Go watch the Texas game again and tell me how well our LBs do at cutting off that quick underneath passing game. Take a look at Duvernay's stat line from that night and let me know how well they cut it off.

ETA: I'm not saying our DB's are playing badly. I'm just saying that they are being put in bad positions that doesn't allow them consistently make plays on the ball.

I see a lot of people say Chaisson was getting beat all game against Texas but watching the replay yes he got beat on some plays and was held on a few as well but there were others where he was right there but Ehlinger was getting the ball out a little quicker.

Everyone saw it.

But why was Chaisson allowing it to happen, of course he was told to keep the QB contained, but he had no response to the hold. EVERY OT in the SEC is going to grab him under his pads just like that, and it will not be called if he just bellies up to the OT...he has to create separation to show the hold. If he does not it will not be called, this is just he fact.

Totally agree, coworker and I were saying the same thing yesterday. Phillips, Queen and Clark can handle the middle.

It’s pretty obvious Aranda is trying to teach zone concepts to a bunch of man coverage cbs and green young guys in back end.

^I agree with this.

When the Aranda hire was announced, I watched/read everything I could on him and his defenses. Seemed like zone-blitzing (i.e. Dick LeBeau and Steelers) was a big part of his scheme. However, when he got here we really didn't see any of that. I guess when you have elite DBs that can blanket in man coverage, you tend to rely on that heavily instead.

I think all the disdain for Aranda is waaaay too early and this defense will get it together. And if done right, could be on par with or better than offense.

Could be personnel change.

In 2014 after getting stomped by Auburn, they started beckwith and Adams, the d finished strong that season outside of the whole Chavis out the door during the bowl game.

Booger, for as horrendous a commentator he is, seems to be a personable guy and probably has a ton of connections into LSU athletics.

This! Move him back in his original spot opposite of Chaisson. Let Jacobs, Queen, and Clark rotate inside

Clark has been an unexpected stud! Nice size on him too (6'3 240lbs). He's going to be a monster! He'll play even faster once he gains more experience/reps.

I know that's right. The past two weeks have inspired real cause for concern.
