I would hope the search net goes beyond former assistants. This basketball needs a complete overhaul.

This isn't me putting his name out there for the job so kinda off topic, but could Richard Pitino be a growing name down the road? Look like he has Minny on the right track at 1.6 mil. per year.

He wouldn't be the worst choice by any means but probably not the best fit either.

Too young and unproven.

Wins 25 games in year 1 at Minny, then 18, then only 8, now has then over 20 wins again this year. Seems to be all over the place and for a 34 year old I wouldn't want to take the risk.

Bottom line is we cant keep failing at hiring a basketball coach. Trent Johnson got this job because of the Lopez twins bringing him up at Stanford, not due to any real coaching whatsoever. He gets fired from TCU after here. Johnny Jones gets this job because he won a decent amount of games at UNT and is a former player, nothing more. Again, a poor coach and has failed here.

We have got to go out and get a guy who can OBVIOUSLY coach, and surround him with recruiters who can better lock down the talent around here, because there's certainly a good bit of it to go around we've been missing out on.

He's doing pretty well at Nevada, but apparently he's making $2 million a year there.

For the money Musselman would demand to come to LSU there are lots of other coaches who would have to rank higher on the totem pole.

He was brought here to be a defensive specialist coach on the bench. He failed miserably. He is living off his fathers name and no where as good as hid father was.

Sounds like the kind of guy Alevia would jump on quick.

He's been a head coach for multiple teams in the NBA. And he did not fail miserably coaching defense here at LSU. The only year he was here he drastically improved our D and got Johnny Jones to the NCAA tourney. Then he went to Nevada and already has 41 wins in less than 2 seasons. He also has a much better record than his father in the NBA (almost the same in college).

you have no idea what you are talking about. Jones does not let his assistants do there job. and the 1 year he was here was our best year overall and defensively

, but LSU isn't a bad "destination" spot if the program can win.
it's a bad destination if a coach wants to make good money. LSU must be willing to pay more to get and keep to level bb coaches.

He would be a great hire, but Nevada is his alma mater and I don't know if we could lure him away.

apparently Johnny doesn't let his assistants do much, which to me is pretty shocking considering how inept he is

that's the point, he's an inept control freak, who couldnt coach his way through a Biddy Ball Tournament

Musselman didn't seem to have the impact many expected when he was here

When the head coach didn't want him hear and didn't listen to a single word he said, it's hard to make an impact.

Actually his one season here was the one season LSU wasn't inept on defense. They ranked 32nd on Kenpom that season (compare to 112, 58, 124, and 261 the other years). Maybe it's just coincidence that his one season was LSU's best season on D. But if you watched the games that year, Musselmen was most vocal from the bench when LSU was on defense.

I don't think she is. You might be thinking of Tony Bennett at UVA. Musselmen's wife is a black, former sportscaster. Though it really shouldn't make any difference whatsoever, you never know how interracial marriages may be received by the older LSU fan base
