re: What are the chances that LSU caves in to PETA?

I don't think people, in general, whether conservative or liberal, pay much attention to PETA anymore. The ASPCA has FAR more credibility and tends to make cases of animal cruelty on knowledge and research (they also tend to favor rehomes or rescues to euthanasia, which seems to be the preferred solution for PETA), though neither organization is "perfect."
If the ASPCA and PETA were both covering international news, the ASPCA would be comparable to Reuters and PETA would be "The View."
You'll notice in their little rant about how Mike has been "exploited" they don't mention how many home games he's attended in the last 3 years, how he's not prodded into his trailer (he decides if he wants to go), how he's attended to by a dedicated staff of veterinarians and students of a veterinary school that was ranked in the top 25 by US News just last year.
PETA forgot to mention the size or description of his habitat and the level of maintenance it gets, and most importantly, how few Bengal tigers are left in the world, and that according to National Geographic, they live 8 to 10 years in the wild, but at least one tiger can be rescued from a potentially cruel situation to (in essence) win the lottery by becoming the next Mike, being treated like a king while at the same time studied in the interest of the survival of the species.
The bottom line is that LSU is interested in the best possible care for the animal, and is especially interested in acquiring an animal by means of donation or rescue, and considers euthanasia a last resort in the event of a painful and incurable illness. I think most people know this, while PETA has been losing credibility steadily over the years, so I'd be surprised if they somehow sway public opinion.

LSU spent $3 million on a home for Mike. You think we're gonna cave to a bunch of weirdo tree hugging hipsters? PETA is just doing this for attention. No one cares about them and they know it.

The crackpots at PETA have very little power. The television networks have a ton of power. If PETA could somehow convince ESPN, which is very liberal politically, to not renew their SEC broadcast contract if LSU has a live tiger, it could spell the end of a tiger on campus.

I would hope they don't cave but in today's PC liberal world anything is possible.

Either LSU gets a Mike VII, or a few of those PETA bitches better learn how to get coordinated in a tiger suit & fast.
One way or another, a tiger is ending up in a habitat (or a "cage" as those whiny cupcakes call it) in BR

Chance of PETA raining on LSU's Tiger search? NEVER!!

A young tiger cub is high risk, even with the best care being provided. LSU is better off looking for a tiger that is 1 - 2 years old. Takes a bit more work finding a personality that fits. Downside is that the tiger might never adapt to game atmosphere. Upside is it lives past its natural life expectancy.
The quickest way to end the live mascot tradition at LSU would be to have a young cub expire in LSU's care

if PETA had their way, wild animals will be roaming the streets and eating up human babies and pets!!!

LSU should get a white tiger

I'd say less than 1%.
Hoping for 0%
Never say never and when emotions are involved you never know, hence my 1%. But Mike's care/environment is equal to or better than all other sanctuaries, including the one in Tyler TX. So if logic rules and not emotion (or a noisy minority), then no problemo.

LSU fans that want mike need a voice. We need to get out in front of the PETA narrative. There are way more of us. We just need to be heard.

Wish they'd start with the PETA pussies!

I believe this has actually happened, at least once, at LSU.

No chance of that happening this time. But as we put more liberals in power, it will happen in the future.
I'm glad you realize this. Even in a state as conservative as Louisiana the leftist take over of schools and universities is pretty complete.
Ya'll will get a new Mike this time but if America continues down the path it's going on, he'll be the last one sadly.
