There was no lack of effort. Just didn’t go their way today. No reason to shite on them for losing on the road, by 1, to a top 5 team in the nation

LSU fans love to obsess about abstract things like “effort” or “leadership” even when there are obvious reasons for a loss. See it in football all the time.

Well it wasn't like they were in a hurry to get to the plane. They didn't depart Nashville until 530.

I think we can chalk it up to bad swings against a damn good pitcher.

Vandy is a top 10 team and we took 1 of 3 on the road, and played them very close in the other two. Not ideal by any stretch, but those of you saying that the sky is falling are crazy.

Moo State next weekend and despite our prayers, Cohen didn't take the interim job. If Hess finds his slider, and Gilbert and Hilliard keep it up we will be in fine shape.

I’ve never seen a more idiotic and retarted approach at the plate. Our innings lasted about 3-5 minutes at the plate and not once was an adjustment made. Did CPM have a show he wanted to catch back at home? Was there a BBQ he needed to get to? First pitch take down the pipe second and third pitch swing nomatter where it’s pitched over and over and over again. That was about as piss poor an effort as I’ve ever seen on a baseball diamond.

For the most part I agree.

And this is not unusual for a CPM coached team against good pitching. Seldom swing at the obligatory first pitch fastball that is often thrown. Often get down 0-2 or 1-2 into pitcher's counts where average hitters (our whole lineup during much of his tenure) finds it difficult (as does everyone) to hit for average or power. Then we wonder why we aren't producing enough runs against the good pitching staffs. IMO it has much to do with approach. Oh, yea. That and not running ourselves out of innings by trying to hit & run all the time. I don't understand when you have a good pitching staff and defense with playing small ball and trying to get at least one run every time you get a man on base with 1 out or less. Bunt him over into scoring position and be happy with a single run instead of waiting for the big hit that often never comes and instead getting a goose egg.
I know that CPM has a Natty but I wonder if that might be 2 or 3 if we would have played small ball a little more often when out hitting wasn't so good. Like this year.

Look, I don’t want to come off as shiteing on Hess but you can’t have your Friday starter giving up that many homeruns. Paul has to rethink his weekend pitching rotation and get Hess back to a closer. LSU had a shot to win this series.

It was two homeruns man. This team should be able to win games when the pitching only gives up 4 runs.

Actually it was a good series, between two equally matched teams. Was impressed by the pitching. Hey, it's baseball. You never know how that baseball is going to bounce. That's why I love the game so much.

Great effort Tigahs!

WTF! We are pretty much top 3 in the SEC in hitting every year and we face good pitching every weekend in this league but yet they are always avg hitters. Get a clue!

You didn't finish. Zero run's what???? What a shitty effort at grammar.

Pretty sure these young men know who they are playing for and they don't need a couch potato coach reminding them that they represent LSU!

I still say hitting is our biggest weakness and will be what keeps us out of Omaha.

You could be absolutely correct. This team, however, is going to be a blast to watch over the next 2-3 years. Manieri has a lot of young talent that will lead us back to Omaha. Either way, I still think this season could be a good one before all is said and done.

I love our catcher but this is the 3rd time he let an easy ball get by... Once against the Cajuns that led to a run earlier in the year as well. McDonald commented it appeared he just took his eyes of it. Getting crossed up that early in the game is a bit silly -- starting pitchers and catchers typically have the stuff together. Sometimes this happens late in games with relievers when the signs change during the game / guy on 2nd base.

The sac bunt attempts were pathetic. Maybe the girls team should teach them bunting basics!

LSU outscored Vandy by a run in the series, then of course Mizzou outscored LSU by two runs the previous weekend. Very unusual to see a game with zero RBIs. Really need to sweep State.

I agree with everything you said. CPM simply doesn’t have an offensive identity. One year he went bunt crazy doing it all the time, now he doesn’t even do it when it’s needed for certain situations and he has no clue how to make a lineup. He doesn’t use an analytical (moneyball) style approach or a traditional lineup, he kinda goes with feel and who he’s in love with at that moment. His strength is setting up elite defenses, he seems to always find the right pieces to give us an air tight D. He usually recruits enough pitching as well, I can’t say he’s great at managing pitchers because he isn’t but our defense as a whole is always A++. If he would just let someone control the offense or at least manage and set the offense up by the book I agree we’d have 2 more titles. But it’s not likely to change he’s coached this way since he arrived here.
