Clapp said "never". That's an absolute. No value to reading into this (e.g. Maybe he really only meant 1/2 of what he said). If people want to take him at face-value for saying he never watched film, they have every right to because it's what he said. No need for interpretation.

except he didn't say he never watched film

Are you debating whether or not the quote exists?

I'm glad Les got fired. I think it happened way to late. I don't think his teams were as prepared as they should have been. However, to imply his teams never had film study with a coach is ridiculous (and the player's quotes do not support it).
The amount of stupid in this thread is eye-popping.

This.
Full quote from slackster on the first page:
quote:
“But when you have a long practice, it’s just mentally as hard as physically, staying focused, all that type of stuff. … Coach O is more (about) time in the meeting room. We’re going to watch film. We’re going to pick up tendencies, stuff like that. I’m excited. I’ve never done it this way. I’m just open to some new stuff.”
Clapp is not saying they never watched film. He's saying they've never had a film session focused on an opponent's tendencies.
As I've already said, that's a red flag in regards to the overall philosophy of the offense.

Yes. If we are not able to "read into" his quote and take it at face value, like you said, quote where he stated he never watched film.

No he didn't.

which is something that I think most of us always speculated
Miles philosophy was it didn't matter what they did, we are going to do what we do and they have to stop it
which obviously was led to his ultimate failure in the end

quote:
We’re going to watch film.
This would indicate a break from what had been done previously (i.e. not watching film).

100% correct. I echoed this exact sentiment on the 2nd page of this thread and in the thread on the SECR.

yeah
lets use fragments of the quote to fit your narrative
that isn't disingenuous at all

It's not fragments. It's the actual quote.

well gee, that sounds much better.
ON the chance to get a first down in the red zone and LF ran left into the d, he came to the sideline voicing his displeasure to coach Miles. You could tell it by LF's demeanor. Les was stubborn as they come.

"I'm going to stretch less and concentrate on drinking a lot more water after my work-out. I've never done it that way."
The word never is in this quote. Does it imply I never drank water after my previous workouts?

"Never" has various uses in common speech. "I never go there." "I never order salad." "We never lose to A&M." Etc. It may mean I literary never do something, I rarely do something, or I just don't do something nearly as often as one might expect.

Perfect example. Interpreting a completely unrelated quote to obfuscate the meaning of a wholly separate but simple, clear, and direct quote, with little room for interpretation based on the text.

Huge red flag and one would have to assume this isn't just isolated to the O Line. Hearing this explains much when we played down to so many teams through the years. Just a straight up incredible admission. Verifys we were purely winning on talent.
