"I've never done it this way." Clapp
and
Malone: "I think it’s going to help us more just because we’re going to know more about who we're going against and more about our opponent.”

Imagine that, recognizing what your opponent is doing. So clever. It's like they just invented the wheel.

Wait, what?

Our OL didn't watch opposing teams' game film under Miles?

Wow! I knew the man could be bone headed but we seriously haven't been doing this?!? It what every team EVER has always done. This is a revelation.

Not surprising.

It was always a "we're going to run right at you, try and stop us" attitude with Les. Was awesome when the opponent couldn't stop it (i.e. Florida 07), infuriating when everyone knew the opponent could (bama nearly every year).

Surely LSU watched film before. My 8th grade boys watch film of their game and their opponent's game...

Jesus H Christ. I'm not sure if to blame Miles or Grimes but this seems like peewee football 101 stuff.

If this is the case, its a.) damning b.) telling of why our O-line has been garbage year in and year out with the talent c.) makes me livid that we didn't fire our grass eater sooner.

I can tell you for a fact that they watched film and worked on tendencies. The players must be referring to the limited practices and larger focus on mental preparation, but they certainly did that too under Miles.

ETA: if they stopped watching film, which I highly doubt, it was a Grimes thing. Still incredibly unlikely.

ETA.2: The Title of the article from the Advocate - LSU players embrace Ed Orgeron's approach of less practice, more film study

More film study, not film study for the first time.

And Clapp's full quote:
quote:

“But when you have a long practice, it’s just mentally as hard as physically, staying focused, all that type of stuff. … Coach O is more (about) time in the meeting room. We’re going to watch film. We’re going to pick up tendencies, stuff like that. I’m excited. I’ve never done it this way. I’m just open to some new stuff.”

He's never done it this way = spending more time in the meeting room and less time on the practice field is a new approach. This really isn't that hard to understand folks.

One of the first things that was said by folks in the Athletic department after Miles' arrival was that there was far less attention to detail and organization than the previous regime.

Yes, it should be viewed from the context of spending more time on film versus long hours of practice. However, this is still telling. Watching film after you've busted your arse in a exhausting practice might have some consequences. Etling stated that he won't have to spend as much of his own time at night watching film or studying because he'll be able do it in place of longer practices.
