Trust me I get the frustration, I really really do. But we need to develop our program to the point where we put teams away again like we used to. Bad calls happen in every single game every single week, it’s part of the game. Don’t leave the game up to the officials and it’s not a problem.

You are a few days late. There isn't even a thread complaining about the refs on the entire first page.

We are now only discussing who the next OC will be, and whether it's right or wrong for a player to sit out a bowl game.

No reason to make another thread.

But since we are here.

The refs took the win away, the team lost the game. You have to play in a way that does not allow the refs to have an impact. Because in this league, against LSU they will screw us over when given the opportunity.

its just hard to get past it when it seems to happen very often and the bias is real we are not making it up. Yea sometimes we may play the victim but often we really are.

You remember the ones that hurt us and not the ones that benefit us.

I’m close games close calls are magnified. This game the other day moreso than most but we catch breaks too I promise.

we didn't get "screwed over." There were a few 50-50 calls that all went against us. But each of them, taken alone, were 50-50.

It's like flipping a coin and getting 4 heads in a row. It happens. Doesn't mean there are mysterious evil forces that cause it to happen.

Was Les good at putting away teams, or did he play down to his opponent? Asking for a friend.

Point out the bad calls.

Let the media point it out as well.

Then move on. Obsessing about it does nothing but make our fanbase look delusional. And believe it or not, you accomplish the opposite of what you want to accomplish.

You’re absolutely right. It’s pathetic how much of a defeatist mindset lingers around here. A bunch of cry babies.

The fanhood has devolved to being about the players and how dominant we can be, to how the world is out to get us. Fricking embarrassing.

No one wants to admit that we were an overachieving team that wasn't ever a real threat to win a NC. It's easier to say we would've been a contender if we hadn't gotten cheated out of it.

We are not an overachieving team.
Turns out our schedule was not as tough as anticipated.

that's exactly what the SEC and refs count on.

Tell me again how many penalties A&M had against them?

There were two or three that everybody saw that absolutely were not 50/50 and should have been called against A&M, like the false start on the running back.

And I agree with you that some of the calls that LSU fans were complaining about were in fact 50-50 calls. When some of the 50-50 calls go against you then I would say that falls in line with the law of probabilities. Hell, that's why they're called 50/50 calls. The problem is it seems that those 50/50 calls always go against LSU. I very rarely see a non-call against LSU and say to myself, "man LSU got away with one there". That very rarely happens.

that's just a psychological thing. You always tend to notice and remember the bad things that happen to you, not the almost-bad things that didn't happen.

If you go back and look at any LSU game from the perspective of the other team, you'd find a lot.

I hear the same thing from people from out of town or who aren't LSU fans and have no dog in the fight. It's not just us.

Whether it's unfair scheduling, overly harsh application of penalties like the Fulton case, horrible officiating that never seems to go in LSU's favor, getting openly fricked over like the Florida Hurricane Matthew debacle, it just seems like the SEC has always had it out for LSU for whatever reason. I'd love to know what LSU did to cause this animosity but to say it doesn't exist is just sticking your head in the sand. There are just too many examples out there. Where there's smoke there's fire.

I watch other games and I see bad calls go both ways. But I've also noticed that in some games with certain teams the calls go all one way and it's not always just because one team is committing all the fouls.

Officials are human and I think their biases are difficult to control especially if they're implicit or subconscious. I think there are ways of vetting officials and constructing hiring practices that would reduce this but like most highly sought-after employment or membership groups, it becomes a good old boys club over time and that reduces the quality of the hires because you start selecting for nepotism rather than competence.

There was a poster here on the rant that posted a topic a while back centered around a conversation he had with a friend of his who was an official with one of the smaller conferences. That official told him that the SEC officials are a highly incompetent and closed group and that fact was well known throughout the college and pro football refereeing world. I think he said the best officials come out of the Big Ten.
