The real question is why are we back to throwing the ball 15+ yards on every throw? Why can't we throw easy possession routes? Outs, curls, hitches and digs. Easy throw and catch and you run the clock.

I don't think size should be the determining factor... not by a long shot.

Having said that, our WRs need to be looked at in detail, and challenged. Not just the starters either. Except for Chark (who needs his arse chewed about focus and leadership) we shouldn't have "starters".

We've all heard about RB by committee, QB by cmte, Y & Z need to be by cmte. This was actually my biggest worry coming in to this season.

Harp on Etling and Canada all you want, but if the WRs aren't doing ALL their job DE and Canada can't do theirs. At best they will struggle. At worst they look like chilled, mowed, stepped in, dogshit. By "all their job" I don't mean all of them, I mean do everything a WR has do well, every play. Want a play off? Put in Drake. Take a play off with you blocking, put in Stephens. That's the rationale for "by committee". That and no superstars. At least not yet.

You don't get to be a superstar WR unless the QB looks good (not great, but at least good). Except for Chark, I think he's earned it. But that superstar/draft status isn't bestowed for life. It can drift away just like the smell of shitty play can waft into the nostrils of fans, coaches, opponent D-coords, and scouts.

We started doing that against MSU. Hell, some of the 3rd and shorts were passes. Some of those were on target, and fricked up. I think Gage's face-mask-plant was a 3rd and two (have to look that one up). But yeah, it SEEMS (not enough data yet) we were planning and doing just that some.

well thats on the WR coach. end of fricking story one gets paid............the other doesn't. paid guy owns it

Yep. Mickey Joseph was probably the coordinator/position coach that I was least excited about. He was hired to recruit Nawlins. I'd rather get a great position coach because their ability to develop talent would help recruit, not the reverse.

I thought you knew. It's because Gage caught a touchdown last year.

Outside of DJ Chark. I think we have some average roleplayer Wide Receivers (Along with guys who are in the doghouse). LSU is missing the likes of Quinn,Johnson & Diarse right now.

If they don't know the plays, that's on the coaches. Teach them the fricking plays.

You underestimate the importance of intelligence or lack thereof, which is ironic. Also, keep in mind, if a player doesn't understand the play, he's not just going to be in the wrong place for himself, he's also going to mess up someone else's route or run.

Who are the top receivers in the league? If you did a top 5 or 10, how many are closer in size to Gage and Dillon than Sullivan and Anderson? Size is no guarantee of playing ability

According to people in the know, they don't know the plays.

They've got 5 to 6 inches over most cornerbacks. Run as fast as you can straight down the field. Etling throws bomb (something resembling that ), jump over the cornerback and make the catch. Make. The. Catch.

There. Now you know the play.

After the first game, where I think you might have been working to make a statement to your program, I have no idea why those dudes are not starting/ playing more.

No idea.

Being a WR is one of easiest places to play early on offense. I could understand difficult as QB or OL because more stuff changes.

Well Sullivan dropped a TD pass, so...probably a big reason right there.

Because drops are keeping Chark and gage off the field?

You go over plays, everyone has playbooks. As a coach, learning the plays is easy for the players..the ones who do it care more, and have earned the right for their playing time

when it equates to your livelihood and employment, the success of the program, then you take the onus.

I dont get to tell my physician owners that staff didnt know what to do, that I taught them, but they didnt do their part. while that may be true, I'm resposible because I'm in charge. thats how it works.

It doesn't help they are on their third WR coach in as many years. Hard to have consistent developement with that kind of coaching turnover.

The receivers behind Gage are to talented to see major time on the sidelines. If they don't know the playbook, then teach them one plays or two plays and run that. I'm sure they know the routes. After that team them another, and so on.

What sucks is that our starting recievers this year should be Tryon Johnson, Malachi Dupre, and Trey Quinn
