If you're beginning from a premise that Orgeron is a good coach, then yes it's totally reasonable to not jump the gun. Problem is, I don't know what you could point to that would indicate he's ever been a good coach. It's if people are willfully ignoring empirical evidence and you're continuing to for some inexplicable reason. I could see before this game but losing like this should've been the last straw. He has done nothing to earn the benefit of the doubt beyond this point.

All O this. Pun Intended.

quote:

Waaaay too early to jump ship. Let's see how O rallies the players these next two games. I was shocked, just like you, by how crappy we played...I realize the offense is still a work in progress with our new OC, but I was floored how bad Aranda's defense played. Regardless, O isn't being fired after this season so please don't waste your time worrying about his buyout.

I wouldn't disagree that some consideration is needed. The problem is we are in an absolutely terrible spot, outside of O being wildly successful.

Even if O were to be terrible, like 3-9 terrible, we literally shouldn't fire him purely for optics purposes, not even thinking about the buyout. The kind of coach O is the way he was hired.....people are treating O like an actual Head Coach, and an actual Good Hire, where he isn't one. His leash should be short, but optically, it can't be. We can maybe look at firing him after year 2 at best.

If O is mediocre, he's probably here for 3 seasons....and 3 seasons of mediocrity, and possibly more.

But that doesn't mean I want to stop talking about how terrible of a hire and coach he seems to be unless he proves that wrong. See above - He has to be wildly successful, and the MSU game a fluke, or there are huge problems ahead.

Pretty incredible that stating that a coach won't be fired in 1 season qualifies you as a positiger these days

I'm O-Positive...And Alleva just hired Will Wade who has already won a recruiting national championship at LSU, and these jack-legs are wanting Alleva gone because he didn't hire Jimbo or Herman or have numerous interviews with powerhouse coaches like Larry Fedora, Jeff Brohm, etc.

And don't tell me that if Alleva would have seriously went after Mullen, that all holy hell would have broken out because most at LSU did not want Mullen.

That was hire number 3 for the basketball team, right?

Two more to go with football. Awesome.

say what? you really have a problem with me offering an opinion that is steeped in reality? O is not being fired this season...that is preposterous!

This.

Nobody's gonna pay two coaches $22 million to NOT coach. I don't care how much money you've got.

The problem is Alleva giving O a buyout at all. The guy was practically begging for the gig. You never give away more than you have to. It's not like he wasn't gonna sign the contract without it.

Now we're saddled with at best, an unknown commodity.

It would be a raise for O without changing his current responsibilities

1. He deserves a chance to construct a program from a 8-9 wins to a championship contender. That will take 2-3 years. Just look at the lack of O & D linemen and you realize the truth in that.

Coach O has been our recruiting coordinator the previous two years and he promised we wouldn't be in a rebuild if he got the job. Keep moving the goal posts.

quote:

njuries, penalties, bad calls, drops, missed assignments

I was told that O would never stand for a team to come out larthagic and would never struggle against the less talented teams. All of these things you mention outside of injuries are all coaching. Good coaching instill that disciple to stop these things from happening. You might have an argument except these things have happened for 3 weeks straight now. We are in the top 3 in the country for most penalties. Who else can you put the blame on for that consistent problem of disciple?

quote:

3. Don't care how good you are if you only have 3 DLinemen, and one is inexperienced, you probably aren't going to win. Eventually they will wear you down and if nothing else pound the rock & beat you.

Easier to have depth on defense whenever your players aren't getting kicked out of the game for undisciplined play. And tell me who recruited these players again? Ed fricking Oregeron.

quote:

4. Dropping open passes isn't O's or Canada's fault.

Poor offensive exsecution is deffinitly their fault. It's amazing how everything fell on Miles lap when we lost, but with O anything that goes wrong is the players fault.

quote:

Recruiting coordinator doesn't make the decision on how many of each position to ultimately offer. H

That's literally the definition of that job title.

quote:

Give O some time. I would have preferred a big name coach too. B

He's the one who promised the moon to get the job. Why should we change the standards now? We just fired a coach for only winning 8-10 games a year and now we're supposed to be okay with winning 6-8 games a year?

quote:

But we didn't pass on Herman, he JILTED U

Our AD hung up on the phone after Herman sent a counter offer. He pouted and decided to hire a DL coach. That doesn't absolve O for being a shitty coach. We never seriously considered anyone else but O. Alleva wanted O from day 1.

Coach O loves LSU right? So I'd fully expect him to forgo his buyout and return to being a DLine coach. He's one of us right?

I stand with Chicken, shocked by the defense. Offensive position groups took turns dropping the ball (literally) sometimes to where we couldn't get anything going.

The game was painful. Honestly, I think I felt worse about this one than 1/9. At least, that game was a national championship game and the season building up to it was fun even though the game itself was humiliating and frustrating.

I bought a new pair of rose colored glasses since I stomped on my other pair Saturday night. I still believe we will be better and win more games, probably some we won't be expected to win. I have to believe that to survive.

All the people screaming about firing O etc... are wasting their breath. That's not going to happen, so scream about what we need to do to make what we have better or just turn in your fan package. Less will be more.

I'm still 100% behind the staff and the players. Wouldn't change a thing.

But man that was a bad game.

Agree Chicken.

Seems like too many people have an agenda or axe to grind and can't wait to immediately jump to attack/defend their position on whatever, be it hating O, loving Miles, whatever.

So much better for all try and stay rational at least this early in the season.

Of course he will rally them the next two games.

The opponents aren't worth a shite we are playing.

Way to go out on a limb Chicken.

Then the university better make up for all the money they will lose by us not showing up.

They want to be stubborn. So can we.
