After watching Tim Corbin address the Vanderbilt team after they were eliminated on Saturday night was hit wrenching. They lost in a heartbreaking way, but is nothing compared to what they and their deceased teammate's family must be going through just around 72 hours ago after freshman pitcher, Donnie Everett drowned in a tragic fishing accident

Someone should kick that whistler in the teeth.

I was pulling so hard for Vandy. It was gut wrenching indeed to watch and see that jersey hanging in the dugout.

And the poor player who went to help but turned back. Man ... My heart breaks for him.

Feel bad for them. Just wish it would have been the whistler that drowned

Apparently (someone correct me if I'm wrong) Everett was trying to swim across a small lake. When about half way across he started yelling for help, so one of his buddies swam out to him and started pulling him. Everett was laughing and cutting up, so his friend assumed he was ok and left him, swimming back to shore alone. When he got there and looked back, Everett was gone.

Something about they thought donny was joking but eventually someone went after him and started helping him ashore.

But the guy said he wasnt struggling or panicking so he let him go and swam to shire by himself thinking donny was behjnd him. Turned around and he was nowhere to be seen. Rescue divers found him 15 ft from shore where he drowned.

They played like pure shite. You could tell baseball was the last thing on most of their minds. It was sad to watch really.

Do people think he cramped or something and became unable to swim?

I was pulling for them, but I think the grieving process is helped by letting them now focus on their loss of teammate. Probably some trauma for some of the players who were out there, too.

Sup, CT? Where all the white women at?

FWIW, I had a swimming panic once like that. I was swimming in a lake testing a wetsuit the day before a half iron man (first and last one I did!). Wet suit didn't fit well and I was really struggling. Had to stop and float on my back and try to settle my composure. Screamed for help, but I guess folks on the shore thought I was ok. Calmed myself down enough to make it in, but I thought I was a goner.

Have some class,"Someone should kick the whistler in the teeth" this is about a team and a family that is grieving and not about a jackass posting crap like that.

Hoping someone else goes down and dies?? You are a sick person! I don't care who the whistler is. It is another human being. You appear to not be able to separate sports from
The bigger game if life. If that is the way you are, then seek professional help!

I haven't heard. You can cramp I your legs and use your arms or vice versa. Not sure they will ever know for sure.

I've said this before and will again. If you don't know how to swim, stay the frick out of the water. There's no shame in it.

I feel particularly bad for the guy who turned back, he was apparently also untrained and didn't know that most drowning victims do not splash around like they are in trouble, they are flailing very vigorously *below* the water but you won't know it unless you know what to look for.

Based on what I read from the reports he should have been an easy rescue for someone with even basic training. Very sad and avoidable.
