I hate to break it to you all, but LSU will not be a top five program or top five job. EVER.

Top 10? Yes.

Not top 5.

And there is absolutely NOTHING wrong with that!

I'm willing to listen to exactly who you have ahead of them and why. This thread was more specific to 2005 but I'm still interested in hearing who and why.

He's talking out if his arse. With the exception of 2008, LSU has been a Top 5 program since the conclusion of 2005.

It has taken MILES 10 years to do what Saban did in just 5 while building the PROGRAM at the same time. Both 2 SEC Championships and each 1 NC. EVEN though it was SABAN's QB and recruits that won it for LESS Miles. Dinardo if HE would have followed SABAN would have been more successful.

DiNardo may very well be the GOAT for LSU. If not for the LSU brass allowing Carl Reese to walk, he could have been coaching here until retirement.

I was at LSU in 1998 and going into that season the momentum had been building under Dinardo. It really felt like they might be getting it together to make a run. Then Lou Tepper showed up.

I heard an interview recently with Dinardo and he was talking about the "arms race" now and how little he had to work with in comparison back then. I think he was a good coach and it is a shame he will be remembered for the way it ended but that's how the cards fall sometimes.

Probably not, but now we certainly are. Most ranking agencies lists consist of (in no order)

LSU
USC
Alabama
Florida
Ohio State
Texas

You forgot Georgia

Joe Dean didnt do him any favors. Can only imagine what Dinardo would have done under Emmert and Skip. Worked out well for the university though, regardless.

Facility wise, UGA is behind LSU. If Miles wants something built, he'll get it (e.g. Nuitrition Center). I feel Mark has a tougher time getting things done. I'm not sure if the UGA administration is fully committed to winning big

Our monetary support surpasses UGA too. This is from a few years ago

Why do you say possible 8-5 this year?

Cause we has those who seem to think negatively, given a choice, and those who think positively. I look at our bowl game, who we are playing, and think we win.

Top 5 jobs in 05 would be USC, Okla, OSU, Fla., and Tex.. While Miami had great results on the field, I don't believe they ever had the support needed to be in the top 5. Bama has always had great support, but that support in 05 hadn't translated into on the field results for a number of yrs before 05. .

The last 15 yrs, imo, has certainly put LSU into the top 5.
