Was LSU a top 5 job in 2005?

Some discussion was going on in another thread about whether or not LSU was a top 5 program/job on Jan 1, 2005 when Miles took over. I felt they were and others felt it was laughable. I'm not talking about historically but as of that day where would the program rank.
Some criteria would be recent W/L record, conference championships, national championships, recruiting rankings, athletic dept. budget, NFL draft picks, facilities, recruiting base, etc...
I got started by listing the teams Chilge mentioned were better at that point. If there are any other programs that should be considered I"ll add it to the original post.
I used the previous 5 seasons and rivals rankings from 2002,03,04. Rivals database only goes back to 2002 but this makes sense anyways because these would be the players on the rosters by the start of 2005 season.
If anyone wants to chime in with other important factors (total number of draft picks on 2005 roster, recruiting budget) feel free and I can add them to the list.

Great. Then list your criteria and top 5.

Back then we were not a top 5 job now we are.

Good work. I'd say we were better than Iowa, but I kinda figured that anyway... Based on those results, I'd say to take out OSU, except that they played for a NC 2 of the next 3 years.

No. Cause to most on here Saban did NOTHING while at LSU and it only became a relevant program once Miles got here....

I'm willing to listen to anyone that has a top 5 if they list it and list the criteria. And we are talking about before 2005 not now.
But if you just say "no" and don't contribute why you are wasting space

A top job? Close.
A top 5 program? No.
Lsu was/is a top 5-10 job. But it wasn't a top 5 program in 2005..
By 2005 lsu had won 10 games 4 times in 45 years. Lsu had lost less than 3 games 6 times in 50 years. Thats not a top 5 program

Top 5? Probably a stretch. Definitely top 10. Imo, CFB is more than 50% recruiting, and LSU will always be top 10 because of the talent in LA.

Are you asking if lsu was a top 5 job or a top 5 program, because there is a difference.
Posted on 12/27/14 at 1:37 pm to TN Bhoy
Probably not, but now we certainly are. Most ranking agencies lists consist of (in no order)
LSU
USC
Alabama
Florida
Ohio State
Texas
LSU
USC
Alabama
Florida
Ohio State
Texas

LSU was not a top 5 or coaching job in 1999... BUT in 2005 LSU was a top 5 plum job... Program wise maybe top 8.....

JaxTiger10 - again, we are talking about on Jan 1 2005. Not historically. What programs would you have ranked above LSU at that time and based on what?
Posted on 12/27/14 at 1:40 pm to nm1230
Based on the results Maimi was clearly the best on the field leading up to 2005. But constant NCAA stuff hovering around that program and sub-par facilities probably wouldn't have made it top 5 by then. And it unraveled right after that.

I'll argue that there was no better job to walk into than LSU in 2005
