Exactly! The throw was coming in up the line and the catcher was moving up the line to field the ball. It was baseball! Just one of those things that can happen when there is a potential play at the plate.

How could anyone see this differently? The C was up the line because the throw was up the line. by the way, the ump did call interference - right call - b/c the C didn't have the ball, but that wasn't intentional. The ball got by him. Geez.

Sorry Josh, but I disagree. We used to teach the catcher to step one step forward then go up the line for the ball. If he had been trying to catch the ball, he would have had a better chance of getting an out. The ball wasn't really close to where he set up to "wait for it" right in the base path. Then the lifting the elbow to make sure he got a piece of the runner made it worse. I think the ump warned him, which is probably why Bianco came out of the dugout. It was a dirty play intended to make it look like just rugged baseball, but he planted in the path and could see the throw wasn't coming to that spot.

I am sure the fact that Turner and Rhymes played together at LSU Eunice and were once good friends might have had a big impact on Turner throwing the elbow up...definitely a dirty play

Guess you missed the part where I said ideally thats what you would want your catcher to do in that situation......here is what I posted on page 2

agreed..my first thought was eject the catcher for blocking the plate without the ball. But, the replay shows Rhymes and the ball getting there at the same time. So, it really was just bad timing.
ETA: where was the right fielder?

The catcher was trying to make a play and did nothing dirty or cheap. The only negative thing about him was going from LSU-Eunice to Ole Miss. Would loved to have had him in BR.

The catcher was out of position, on the line waiting for the throw. It looked like it was unintentional, that he was just caught in a bad spot and had to raise his arms for impact. It didn't look like there was anything malicious at all. Glad Rhymes didn't try to blast him, he's a pretty big boy.
