Underestimating Cam Newton

I've been reading on here for a few days now, and it seems as though some of you are seriously underestimating Cam Newton. Lest I remind that 3 years ago, in Death Valley, on a Saturday Night, Tim Tebow almost left with a "W".
I'm not saying Cam Newton is anywhere near what Tim Tebow was, but is a dynamic player who can single handedly change the outcome of a game. Especially considering the fact that he touches the ball on every offensive snap. He's as big as as Tebow...maybe a little bigger, and is a better runner.
I think the biggest difference between the 2 is Tebow's heart and determination, but we don't even know that yet.
Having Newton is worth at least 10 points...playing on the plains is worth at least 7 points. So at a minimum, we have to put up 17 points just to go to extra innings. Even if we play a perfect game...with no turnovers, we'll need 24 to 31 points to be in this game in the 4th quarter.
Our defense is good...maybe even great, but those of you who think Tyrone Mathiue will tackle Mr. Newton solo are sadly mistaken.
I think LSU has what it takes to win this game, but it wouldn't surprise me at all if the effects of Cam Newton were enough to swing the game in Auburns favor.

I agree; however, I am hoping that the hits he sustains, both the ones he breaks through and those that they him on his arse, will take their toll in the first half and he struggles later in the game.

I, for one, am not underestimating Newton. He is bigger, stronger, and faster than Tebow was when he won the Heisman. Fact. He can make plays (esp. short routes) with his arm. He appears to have heart and the right attitude after his mistakes a couple of years ago.
I just don't think he has the supporting cast or the defense that Florida under Tebow had.

Cam Newton hasn't exactly faced a good defense yet. He might be worth at least 10 points against a team that can't stop him, but what happens when he gets hit in the mouth on the first play? does he dust himself off and come back fighting, or does he realize he's up against a completely different animal...
and don't compare Cam to Tebow... at least not yet. Tebow's will to win is what made him so successful. Cam still really hasn't faced much adversity.

I agree but...
You mean Tyrann Mathieu? Obviously you may be underestimating him.

I am a fan, not a player. I can underestimate newton, overestimate Moffit, look ahead, and still be a fan.

You talk as though we are the ones who will be trying to stop him. I am confident the team isn't underestimating Cam.

I, personally, am underestimating Cam Newton.
I don't think he's good enough to beat a great defense.
He's got no other weapons. if he's gonna beat a team, he'll have to do it by himself. LSU's D will not allow that.
remember how bad Auburn was last year on both sides of the ball? one QB can only help so much.

I can't imagine anyone underestimating Cam Newton. Especially not the LSU Tigers.

lucky for us we have no such player on our team. Mathieu will be fine and I bet he lays the wood to Newton at least once.

Newton doesn't have the heart Tebow had. I'd take Tebow any day over Cam.

You don't even think he can tackle him? 3 weeks ago people said Denard Robinson was unstoppable, and look what happened. Cam Newton is a good player but he's played many average defenses so far. Also, last I checked football is the ultimate team game, line up Newtown with no linemen/receivers/running backs and let's see how he does. Maybe you don't think our Nickel back can tackle him, but I assure you K-Shep, Baker, Nevis, PP...they can tackle quite well.

Pat Willis style? No.
But, you are fricking crazy to think the kid can't bring Cam down.....I mean, REALLY?! If needed, he'll simply take his legs out.
Hell, by your logic, Laron Landry would've had a tough time with him just by virtue of a weight difference.

Who the frick is underestimating him? I certainly don't think our defense is.

Add 10 points for the crooked officials.
Going to have to easily have to play our best game of the year to win.
Wasted offensive possessions, turnovers, penalties = Loss.

LSU 31
Auburn 10
LSU had an awful offense and an average/decent defense
2010
LSU has the #1 defense in the SEC, a greatly improved offensive line, and rock-solid special teams.
Auburn is the same, but they now have Cam Newton.
I like the odds. Cam is special, but our improved TEAM is more special.

Cam cant be compared to Tebow! Football is a team sport and Tebow had a hell of a supporting cast. Ya know, the arse load of gators who are now wearing the NFL logo on there sleeves.

Who's underestimating Cam Newton?
Posted on 10/20/10 at 9:37 am to tigertime84
Seriously, Auburn is one high ankle sprain from a painfully average squad. Ask Michigan.
NEVER underestimate a strong team.
