What is the playing surface? Particularly, is there dirt around the bases? A ULL coworker claims the entire surface is artificial, even around home plate and bases (ie no dirt at all on the field )

The mound is dirt at ULL. Apparently that is the only natural surface on the field.

Mound is dirt. The rest artificial. The baselines are brown but they're artificial.

Only the mound is dirt. It was weird at first but I've gotten used to it. On the plus side, we don't have nearly as many rainouts as we used to and there aren't many bad hops in the infield.

Isn't Tulane's field similar?

texas has a similar setup as well. unfortunately a lot of schools are going this way. i personally think it's bullshite to have an all turf infield.

That's not baseball IMO. Much rather dirt and real grass.

This is a nice park. Tony R. has done a respectable job with this program and has really generated a lot of fan support. They did some nice improvements as well to the entrance plaza and the stands down the lines. It should be a very good atmosphere but unless you're connected from a corporate angle, LSU fans will be very scarce at this one. This will be a money maker for them no doubt.

I bet if the Box had it, it would be the best thing ever. Jealousy is an ugly, ugly thing.

if only the grass is artificial, then it's not that bad. but when the entire infield is turf it takes away from the game. a sharply hit ground ball on that stuff is entirely different from a ground ball on dirt.

That's not the Cajuns field. It clearly states behind home plate that this is the home field for Louisiana College in Pineville.

Agreed.

Looks like they "forgot" to add Lafayette to their name... Pfft!
