Hell, as a true freshman, when he came on the field in the nickel, it was HIS DAMN FIELD...he OWNED it...every damn play.

And as much as I hate what he fricked up, I respect him for correcting it...and Les Damn Miles for the assist.

Sparked the team like few others... just a pity he sucked our swagger out the door when he left.

I'll legitimately be surprised if TM isn't the defensive player of the year in 2016.

Before the Cards invest too awful much they will want to see him play a complete season

They've already offered him the highest paid safety. He, however, plays the majority of passing snaps covering the slot so he has leverage asking for corner pay.

Getting drafted by the Cardinals was the best thing that ever happened to him

PP really took him in and showed him how to be a professional

I'm not sure if he was drafted elsewhere that he would be having the success that he is having

He also had the maturity to tell the Saints that it would be best for him to get of New Orleans. Knowing yourself is important for success in life.

Just so thankful that he didn't OD on marijuana at LSU

God really was looking out for him

I really hope that someday they do a 30 for 30 with him. He's got an unbelievable story.

Love the Badger!

But....serious question, do you really think he's done enough to be considered the best safety in football? I haven't seen that much yet, although obviy the ability is there.

He was the best one last year by a wide margin IMO. His versatility is unmatched. Can run with top receivers out of the slot, while also playing well against the run, and even blitzing.

What he was able to do last year without a great front 7 pass rush is very impressive. They rely on a lot of 1-1 coverage.

PFF: he continues to make a huge impact on his team, and has a very real argument for Defensive Player of the Year.

quote:

The Cardinals list Mathieu as a safety, because in base defense, that’s what he plays most of the time. In their base 3-4 defense, Mathieu lines up as a safety 77.6 percent of the time—but the Cardinals only play base defense on 33 percent of their defensive snaps. In almost all other sub-packages, Mathieu plays cornerback, primarily, though he has played in pretty much every position in the back seven at one point this season. Overall, he has been on the field for 720 defensive snaps this season. Of those 720 snaps, 66.7 percent of them have been at cornerback (mostly slot), with just 24.4 percent at strong safety, and 8.9 percent at free safety.

quote:

He currently sits in second place in PFF’s cornerback ratings, a hair behind Josh Norman for the best mark on the season. While Norman has been a coverage specialist, Mathieu has been far more involved in other facets of the game. He has been a force against the run and an effective part of the Arizona pass-rush on the blitz.

quote:

No corner has more pass-rushing snaps on the blitz than Mathieu this season, and even if you classify him as a safety, only two players have blitzed more from the defensive backfield.

What other player can defend a quick receiver on 1 play then line up against a Jimmy Graham 1-1 on the next.

He's one of my favorites and he has certainly made something of himself. Although it's not like he was ever a bad person and made awful decisions. The only "bad" decision he made was to smoke pot excessively (like a college student), which is perfectly legal in places in the United States and will one day be legal everywhere in it. This statement is not to detract from his rise. He is incredible. It's just meant to be my way of saying, I never saw him as somebody who was at rock bottom and just needed to get clean. He wasn't a domestic abuser nor did he seem to get involved in gangs or heavy drugs. I've never been anything but pleased with TM7.

-----

Because of AJ completing a few perfect passes to the sideline in the NCCG, that he wouldn't be worth a flip.
And u know TM would have never been booted off of a Bama team .....
