It's gonna be like the Olive and Sky Blue Tulane Titanic hitting a big Purple and Gold iceberg. They wont realize the damage at first, but soon that ship will start sinking and quickly after will be resting on the bottom. (As in Tulane dropping football or going Div.2 or 3)

That was on the verge of happening in 2004 before we rescued them with this current contract. And that was after only 10 years of not playing us every year and not playing us at their place at all (although we did play them twice in Tiger Stadium during that 10 years). Their board actually had a vote on whether to drop football or drop to Division 2 or 3. The vote failed (even before we signed the deal with them), but the fact that it even came to that showed that they were in serious trouble.

Simple fact, they can't survive without us and we don't need them at all. They should be grateful if we are willing to play them at all, under any conditions. Doing so only hurts us and helps them. If they can't appreciate the sacrifice we make just to play them, they can find another source of revenue and respect.

I understand Tulane has struggled, especially since Katrina, but why is it LSU's responsibility to support a private university that brings very little to the state of Louisiana outside of a large contingent of East Coast Jews that don't stay in Louisiana after graduation. On top of that, they charge a ridiculous amount for an overrated education (no offense Tulane alums, but your degree is no more impressive than an LSU degree in almost every major if not less impressive).

If it was a state school, then I'd understand. Otherwise, LSU shouldn't be shackled by them.

What rivalry? 68-22-7

We've only lost to Tulane 9 times since 1939!!!

It would be nice to have a rivalry with Tulane like Georgia/Georgia Tech, Michigan/Notre Dame, Clemson/South Carolina, or Michigan State/Notre Dame. I'd like to play TU every year, but if they can't uphold their end of the bargain then play them only at Tiger Stadium once every few years. LSU gets a rent a win from a school we don't like and Tulane gets a nice check and gets to save on travel. The travel savings alone ought to be enough for the greenie weenies.

That's the problem. Tulane needs the home-home series not only for monetary reasons, but it also inflates their home attendance figures. They're in danger of losing their Div 1-A status due to poor attendance.

I am still laughing at the ridiculousness of that statement. My alma mater SLU is more of the level LSU is on academically. This reminds me of the LSU = Harvard thread on here. I love LSU football, but you guys can be seriously delusional at times.

Tulane needs to move to a stadium closer to campus to reconnect with the student body and to encourage a tail-gating/alumni feel. The Superdome does nothing for Tulane except to make them look really bad on national TV.

SMU tried this a few years ago by moving from Texas Stadium to a new, smaller on-campus stadium, which is a nice facility, but hasn't done much to revive a program the death penalty all but wiped off the face of the earth.

Laugh all you want NightMan, but it is a fact that LSU and Tulane are at the same level in most degree programs. In Engineering, LSU kicks Tulane's arse. Business for LSU does in some degrees also.

Tulane is a joke when they charge $40,000/year to people. Even their medical school is considered a joke by many that have dealt with it. Sorry if you find it funny, but I've dealt with more than enough people from both schools, and Tulane's by far are overconfident and underwhelming to say the least in their actual skills.

You are either incredibly ignorant or incredibly delusional.

quote:

In Engineering, LSU kicks Tulane's arse.

Tulane has cooperative engineering programs with Vanderbilt and Johns Hopkins. Are you really trying to assert that an engineering degree from LSU "kicks the arse" of one from Tulane/Vandy or Tulane/Johns Hopkins?

quote:

Business for LSU does in some degrees also.

This is even better. The Financial Times has ranked Tulane's finance program top 10 in the world twice in the last three years. They have a multi-million dollar simulated trading floor, an energy trading program that has been featured on CNN and CNBC, and a nationally renowned equity research program. LSU gets absolutely dominated in every business field other than accounting, which is probably a push due to the auditing program you guys have.

Nobody actually pays that other than poor students from rich families. And those "poor" students would still likely be top 10-15% at LSU. Tulane's financial aid department has a reputation nationally for being very generous.

quote:

Sorry if you find it funny

I find it funny because it is so delusional. By any objective, statistical measure (admissions numbers, endowment, spending per student, class sizes, average salaries at both beginning of career and midpoint, etc) Tulane dominates LSU. It's not that LSU is a bad school by any means, I firmly believe you're underrated by US News, it's just unfair to compare the two IMO. They have distinctly different goals.

BTW I will be bumping this so that you are forced to face your erroneous statements.
