Let this be a lesson to kickers thinking of walking on and trying to earn a scholarship. If you have an offer at a FBS school, take it. That is unless you don't mind walking on for all five years
Could not agree more. PWO is a joke. Take the bird in the hand and go where you are wanted.

Name one other coach who's ever dismissed a heisman candidate from the team. I'll wait for your response.

As opposed to not walking on and not having a shot at all.

If you pass up a Scholarship, it's not about the money aspect.

Every walk on should understand that this is most likely going to be the case. The amount of walk on players that end up getting a scholarship are few and far between.

randy moss
That's a solid answer, but not the same. Moss was kicked off in his freshman year for violating parole due to a failed drug test at FSU, two years prior to being a heisman candidate at Marshall. Again, that's a much more solid answer than I would've guessed, but not in the same ballpark as dismissing Mathieu prior to his junior season and after having been invited to the heisman ceremony as a sophomore cornerback. Try again.

You're right, but I can promise you that Bobby Bowden knew how great of a player Moss was when he kicked him off the team.

Guessing he just wants to play for free, but as a senior will your credits even do any good? I thought if you transfered you had to have a certain number of credits to graduate from that school, not just one seemster.
I guess being a graduate that seems like it would be real hard to offer a scholarship to someone but I guess that's the way it goes.

We would need to cut three kickers to make enough room for Valentine!

but basically kicking off a Groza watch senior kicker
Will you quit with the Groza watch shite? That's absolutely meaningless. Everybody is on a watch list. The Groza people do this to get publicity for their award. Domingue is about the 100th best kicker in America and about the third best on our team.

You have a guy who you KNOW can do the job
He was on a hot streak last year, so Miles started him, but at the end of the year the wheels completely came off for Domingue.

Lester, you are a cynical douche. Of course Miles gives players chances. And of course he gives the most important players more chances. But all evidence points to the fact that Miles is way above average when it comes to caring for his players and for not tolerating the horrible behavior we see elsewhere in college football.
Certainly Miles puts his job security ahead of player welfare. I remember him withdrawing the scholarship from an offensive lineman recruit, in order to sign Gunner Kiel. It was condign punishment when Kiel flipped. The linemen ended up having a nice career at Auburn.
The ruthless tactics employed by Saban, and the amazing results he's had, have forced Miles to make moves like recruiting Valentine and LMFAO, cutting Domingue, and pulling the aforementioned scholarship. He's doing what he has to do to remain competitive. But he's still an exemplar of the character that a major college coach should have. And you. Lester, are an exemplar of a turd.

What would have been the "right" thing to do? Kicking off a kid that HASN'T graduated from school yet? Of all the players, he chose not to renew the scholarship of a player that has an LSU diploma. Are you saying he should've chose one of the kids that doesn't have a diploma yet? One of the kids who are still trying to graduate? You're not really mad about that. You're mad about who was picked and you're using Les' integrity as a scapegoat.

Les better hope that we don't lose a game due to poor field goal kicking.
Why? This board is NOTORIOUS for trashing Les Miles for offering scholarships to special teams players. Yet, now, he better hope they don't lose a game because of kicking?
You either offer scholarships to these players or you deal with these kind of things

No one can piss away scholarships on kickers like LSU.
PK is a pretty damn important position and 85 scholarships means that you can go at least 4 deep at every position. I don't think you need 4 of them on scholarship but when a game comes down to making a kick, I'd rather know that the guy out there was worthy of a scholarship than take comfort in the fact that his scholarship was taken by the 20th best offensive lineman.

Although I wish they could have found an academic scholarship for him.

Les/Honey Badger?
I mean, TM7 went to NYC the previous season, no?

That's cold. He was very good last year. I can't fathom a justification for keeping Cam Gamble on scholarship but not renewing Trent Domingue's. Domingue was just as good on kickoffs and very reliable on field goals.
You can't cut a black guy in this current heated environment. White guilt exposes itself again.
