Everyone else on that list played 3 to 4 years and he only played two, that probably hurt him on that ranking. Had he played in 2012, he would be in the top 3 with Peterson and Bailey.

I have no problem with Mathieu being ranked 9th considering how short his time at LSU was. Also, he's not really viewed as a pure CB in a lot of eyes considering his role in our defense and conversion to safety in the NFL. That being said, I think he's clearly the best player that we've had in the Miles era.

I'd take Webster of Claiborne anyday. And Mathieu should be #2 behind Peterson, could care less how little he played or what he did off the field. YOu could make a easy case for him being #1 despite playing only 2 season, one being a freshman.

Well, if you want to get that technical about it, Champ Bailey only played one year in the "BCS Era." His first two years were before the BCS. So why not have Mathieu higher?

Peterson and Mathieu should be 1 and 2. I don't care which order but they should be the top 2. Mathieu at 9 is a joke.

Is TM the only player here who was a heisman finalist?

i can see why they ranked mathieu lower. as just a pure cover corner, he was pretty good, but not amazing. the guy was just a dang good football player and knew how to wreak havoc, especially in causing fumbles. as faar as covering passes goes, he was exposed in the NC game as much as i would hate to say it. i honestly think he would be ranked higher if he were playing safety.

Your selective memory really sucks.

People always under rate Webster just because it was 2004 since he last played. I would put him over mathieu bc only 2 years and his first season was mainly nickel back without crazy stats like his next season

Webster was 3 time first team All-SEC, 2 time first team All-American, and has the second most ints in school history.
his career accolades are far greater than Claiborne's.

and Mathieu was in no way exposed in the NC game. McCarron played the game of his life and was putting the ball in places that no defender could have stopped it.

Agreed. However I think it's still fair to say TM was a bit exposed, albeit by a QB playing the game of his life. Pretty sure Peterson or Webster would have defended at least half of those balls that went for completions over TM due to his short stature. All were great players, however.
