Hmmm. Seems like you're intimating something. Why aren't you worried how many passes Caleb Lewis threw?
Maybe the coaches feel like McMillan hasn't done enough in practice to earn scrimmage reps. This isn't pop Warner. Not everyone has to play.
Maybe Narcisse is going to have a short yardage/goal line package that the coaches needed to work on. Maybe his role on the team has been defined already and he's not in the running to be the starter, so the coaches are getting him work in areas that he has a chance to play this year. Maybe he'll end up with more playing time than Brennan because of this. Maybe he's still not good at getting the snap from center. I read that this spring was the first time he's had to do that.
I really don't understand how some of y'all think that an open competitive means equal reps for everyone. The coaches still have to have a pecking order with reps distributed accordingly. The guys who are down the order simply have to do more with less chances. That's life. Make the most of your opportunities. Earn your reps.
Everything I've seen and read tells me that this staff is creating a highly competitive culture and all playing time will be based on merit, not seniority or other factors you seem to be hinting at.
Damn strong post

Only a deaf, dumb, and blind person could have left today's scrimmage with any thought other than all of LSU's eggs are in the Brennan basket come next season, if not this one before it's over.
Narcisse makes Brandon Harris look like William Tell.
Etling's red zone performance left O kicking the grass Miles used to chew. Brennan then ended up with more snaps than anyone could have figured.
The running game will be the story of our wins, while lack of passing game will be our downfall. Pitch and catch just doesn't come easy to us.
We don't have a QB that can complete enough passes with accuracy and also be a viable option to run. Etling or Brennan's arm on Narcisse's body would be what O and this team needs.

We are freaking out before the season even starts let's play a game first then we can panic
Posted on 8/19/17 at 11:51 pm to MegaTiger3
No panic here.
Spades are spades.
All depends on your level of expectation.
Teams like AL and FL that have similar athletes and commit to stopping the run will put us in a bind.
One we don't have answers for. Until we have a QB that can make a team respect him as a viable threat to run, even just on passing downs, there will be no joy in Mudville

Coach O who stated Brennan, Narcisse and McMillan were even for the number 2 spot.
Coach speak. You think O is going to tell narcisse an McMillan that they have been reduced to 3/4 on the depth chart?
Its VERY obvious that Brennan has come in, impressed, and taken over the 2 spot.
For him to pass those guys after only a month should actually excite any rational fan.

They have probably figured it out for themselves. Reports from early in camp were that the reps were never really equal. It looks like Brennan is going to be the real deal so we're okay there, but to the other poster's point if the other two don't feel like they were given a shot we may end up in a numbers crunch.

One thing that saddened me about today's scrimmage was how we wouldn't rush but three guys/ our qb's had all day..... and still threw it into the numbers of defenders.....
we could have had 4-5 picks today

McMillan apparently got the picture according to his twitter after the scrimmage...

I was actually at the scrimmage today and if any of you else were there and you are divulging information about the scrimmage, then you are violating the agreement we have with Coach O not to take specific information to the internet. Please refrain, so we don't lose our privilege.
The only thing I will say is that this will be an extremely talented team by his year.

Nothing has been said that we don't hear after every scrimmage.

Wahoocs pretty much nailed my thoughts.
Still too weak at QB this year and a couple Oline injuries would really, really hurt.
Anyone expecting more than 9-3 is going to be disappointed.

Any word on how Jacoby Stephend played?
He also had a few carries for 21 yards.

Am I the only one who now read Justustu2's post in a Mister T voice after he posted, "Unlike you fool?"

If I'm interpreting you right etling had trouble completing short passes today? Last year I thought he was really good at this. Why the change in this scrimmage? Different short routes, weather, defensive strategy? I expect him to be just fine with pitch and catch this year. Anything less would be a step back.

Imo, there is definitely going to be a Narcisse goal line/short yardage package this year like RP and Tebow his freshman year

Canada will gameplan to our strengths so anyone who thinks we come out and throw the ball 30-40X will be disappointed. I suspect a still very run heavy offense with more attempts to get our backs on the edge. Lots of WR runs and screens.
Also, don't be surprised if the passing game or offense in general doesn't look smooth in the first few games. They aren't as in synch as the D and will take time to get there. There will also be more potential for negative plays. The last regime played a conservative low risk-low reward offense. This will be more high risk-high reward. It will pay off as the season progresses.

Exactly! These dumb bunnies don't get it. They are so hung up in the joy of Brennan, they completely missed the point. Any opinion that puts the ascension of Brennan in question is cause for consternation and anger for them.

Scrimmage stats are meaningless.
