My two pleasant surprises from the scrimmage were:
1) Clyde Edwards- he looks like more than just the scat back I had written him off as before seeing him in person. Very strong looking build on him, I expect to see a good bit of him this year.
2) Jefferson's brother- IMO he was either vastly under recruited or are other WRs are not all that good but he looked like our 2nd best WR out there. Already looks like he's built some nice chemistry with Brennan.

What's your view on the offensive playcalling?

Tough to comment on that from a scrimmage since you don't know what exactly the coaches are choosing to emphasize or work on that day. I certainly like what I've seen from this playbook over the previous regime's.

" iall depends on your level of expectation "

Since LSU ranks 3rd nationally and 1st in the SEC for wins between 03-2015, I always expect 10-11 wins and a top 10, or close to it, finish.

I will be expecting no less this yr.

How does Narcisse get only two pass attempts in the scrimmage? How does that keep Narcisse fully tuned in? The picture showing Narcisse with his head down and Brennan smiling seems to represent how the two are being treated in the competition.

No stats for McMillan? Since Brennan showed up there seems to have been a coronation rather than fair competition. That's why Scott left. His father saying he can now be happy again. He was unhappy because he was never given a fair chance to compete. This non-competition for the QBs can be very negative for the team

I hope it all works out. If it doesnt, it will be the coronation, as opposed to a more thorough vetting process that will be the hot topic here on the rant. It may be that there is enough talent within the kid, and around him, that he proves his coaches right.

The SEC, and its top defenses await.

Have you actually seen anything. What youve read is what weve all read. Narcisse is a talent. In order to develop talent, you invest in it in the form of reps. If this system doesnt fit his skill set, then the kid needs to be smart. Wishing the best for him.

Agreed. But 4 and 5 run plays a
practice is absurd.

Etling and Mcmillian have been at LSU going on 2 years. Scott was going into his second year. Narcisse and all the QBs had a full spring and summer ahead of Brennan with Coach Canada. Coach O has been on staff the whole time and saw the talent even before he became head coach. The rest of the coaches have seen all the QBs at least a full spring and summer without Brennan present. At this point in fall camp the time Brennan has had to show what he can do is the same time that LN, LS and JM had while Brennan was not even there. So if Brennan has come in and passed them all in the depth it's not because the others did not get a chance to show what they can do. They had the whole stage to themselves before Brennan even got on campus. Let the chips fall where they may. The best QB will play. PERIOD... Why can't we all live with that?

Its Brennan's job. PERIOD. But there are a few more facts. Canada's system wasn't practiced until spring practice. Go back and read prior posts from the spring. LS and LN rec'd very limited reps in the spring. Some practices, they didnt rep at all. There was NO QB COMPETITION in the spring. They have not competed in the fall. At the end of the day, it doesnt matter. Its Brennans job. Those who are close enough to the program know, it was his job before he stepped on campus.

It does a disservice to the rest of the roster to suggest that an actual position battle took place that didnt. The media doesnt get to see practice, but players do. They know.

I just dont want to see LN waste his talent running goaline and wild cat stuff. He doesnt need plays designed for him. He needs to be in a system thats designed for him.

You do a whole lot of assuming.

Are you telling me that canada, who didn't recruit any of these guys, is going to hitch his wagon to a true freshman without knowing full well that he is the most talented guy out there? He supposedly has full control over the offense, so why would he do that?

I just don't buy that. The fact that he so quickly past them up should be exciting.

He must see more upside with Brennan than the others, which is exactly what the recruiting sites saw as well.

Eta- so you have some affiliation with narcisse?

Assuming? Ive followed threads on this board of people who were present at practice and scrimmages. Eye witness accounts of reps.

Canada is not making the decision here. I know its tough to conceive. But hes not. Not here to argue or debate. Its pointless anyway. This issue was decidedd long before spring practice. Thats why I didn't understand the false press concerning there being a "tie" for second team.

LINK

If you see more upside with one guy as oppose to the other, fine. Then just say, 1 guy got about 4 plays, the other 20 reps. Its not a tie. One guy fits what we want to do more.

Affiliation with Narcisse? None whatsoever. In fact, my opinion is the same on Mcmillain. You can't get these years back. Don't waste them in a system thats not built on your skill set. Maybe they didnt know exactly what the new offense going to look like. Now they know. Don't waste your talent.

Let's concede for a moment--I don't, but will for this hypothetical--that you are correct and that Brennan was "given" the job before he ever got to campus. That this was decided "before spring" as you say. What possible reason in the world would there be for this? This is not litttle league or even high school. These dudes are professionals with their careers and millions of dollars per year on the line--explain to me the logic behind letting some sort of politics dictate who plays. I can't make that make sense.

Are you implying that Orgeron has picked the starting QB? Canada who was brought in to re-vamp the offense let the "DL coach", the guy some say is nothing more than a cheerleader, make the call on who will lead Canada's offense?

Wow. Just wow.

Hmmm, could have been a rumor but I could have swore I heard Les Miles and his side-kick Cam Cameron were no longer at LSU. I'll check Google again.

Thank god LSU doesn't have a Tom Brady or Drew Brees. It would have been SO much better to have Brandon Harris over either one of those guys.
