Fletch is BH homer...he doesn't hide it. The passes that AJ threw against Wisky to Diarse for the td and Dural across the middle showed me he has plenty of arm strength. AJ arm is no weaker than Matt Flynn's.

While Harris may have more upside in the long run, Jennings has the physical tools needed to be a very good qb for LSU. Nothing wrong with having two talented qb's on the roster.

I think his arm strength is a very valid concern. Maybe not that exact play, but definitely some of his slants and outs have left a lot to be desired.

Fletch has always been a Brandon Harris Homer. Not saying anything negative against Brandon, but Fletch would be a critic of Peyton Manning if he was starting over Brandon.

No doubt he will not do as well against teams with very good DBs, who does? I like what I see from him so far.

How about, maybe he will? Jennings seems to be going deep because it's there. IMO, he will probably look even better against real competition, because he has to survey the field. I think we are in for a real treat once he actually has to try. He didn't really have to try with SHSU. Against Wisky, he threw all kinds of passes. The only bad ones were the two screens to Fournette.

I've heard some complaints about forcing the go route to Dural, but I believe this has been pre-determined with the staff, not something he has decided all on his own.

I may be giving too much credit here, but I'm pretty sure they don't trust him enough yet to be allowing check downs and multiple post snap reads.
I think they are allowing some reads/check downs, but to your first point, one of those reads is likely an order to throw deep to Dural IF he's one on one (and not soft coverage) every so often. Just got to watch those safeties.

What stage/point in the game they are in probably is a factor too. They will likely try earlier rather than later.

Fletcher is a Razorback. What does he know? When you are a hog you have to find something wrong with others to make yourself feel better.

By this standard, not one sports broadcaster can make a negative comment about our team?
They can say things like the score, when it happened who got in the game. But every reporter acting like they know about the game is just getting silly. Let guys that played and coached the game critique, let reporters, I don't know......report??? That would be novel.

Honestly, I'd like to see a 3rd and 6 conversion where we complete an 8 yard pass instead of going for the deep ball.

This. I hope we work on that some this week. A good example is the 3rd Q this past week where Jennings went deep to Dural on 3rd and long. Diarse was open on the crossing route for the 1st. Instead, incomplete, we punt.

The deep ball is great once in a while, but sustaining drives needs to be a priority.

However, I do understand that it may have been a gameplan thing playing matchups with our receivers against the SHSU corners. If they were locked up with no safety help, I can see why we'd go for it all.

You make a good point Choup. Right now, everyone is giving us a look that dictates a vertical passing game. The proof is in the results. When LSU has completed its passes, they have been big hitters because the opponents are taking a prove it to me approach. This look, however, plays to Jennings' strength. His deep ball is actually his best asset. I actually think the best way to defend Jennings at this point in his career is to pinch him in the pocket and drop 8.

A lot of things a power team does against an opponent like Sam Houston can be shot down with "That wouldn't happen against (fill in the blank)."

His first TD pass certainly had nice speed and trajectory.

Arm strength isn't everything. Accuracy, timing and good decision making has allowed many college QBs to excel without elite arm strength.

That describes several Heisman winning QB's that I recall, such as Danny Wuerffel.

Home run ball

We just brought in 2 of the top 3 WRs in the country. Both with great speed. Diarse and Dural are better than expected. After years of passing game futility, I'm just gonna enjoy the deep ball. Also, this was a staple of Cam's offense in Baltimore--all of our pass routes are built around the vertical passing threat.

He pointed out that A. Jennings inability to throw darts will catch up will LSU. Example: 2nd TD pass to T. Dural in the middle of the endzone was a duck and would have been picked in the SEC.

I sit in the SEZ and could see the whole play develop

It looked to me as if he read that there was tight coverage, but no coverage to the outside and he gave Traven room to extend and run under it...I actually thought it was a beautiful pass

The coaches are smarter than Fletcher. They will have Jennings ready for SEC play. Not worried about that at all.

I am damn excited about seeing Harris in the future however. What an arm!

What's more concerning to me is that he can't step up in the pocket and go through his progressions. He has one receiver the whole time and when he's not open, he gets "happy feet". This will come back to bite us in the arse until Harris gets going.

I'm not talking about ball speed, trajectory or even accuracy. I'm talking about mindset. Get the first, move the chains. We should make sure we have that going into the Moo State game.
