Not necessary. Aliens are welcome to just about any tailgate.

Our plan is to fill our backpack coolers full of beer and some food and make friends as we stroll through the tailgate scene. Looks like our plan will be well received. Thanks!

If the game is at night prime time, then suggest taking in NOLA Friday night in the French quarter. It's only an 1:15 hr drive up I10 to the campus the next AM. Many alums hang out at Chimes for lunch. They show all the day college games on a huge theatre screen. Then by 2:00 head to the parade grounds and slowly tailgate party jump toward the stadium. Hang out on Victory Hill for the Team Walk and Golden Band from Tiger Land playing "Hold that Tiger". Then normally would say go see Mike the Tiger in his outdoor home that sits between the Stadium and the PMAC (basketball arena), but sadly we just lost the big cat to cancer). Take in Tier Village in the same area before entering the stadium. Be in seats 30 mins before kickoff to witness the crowd worked into a frenzy with Pre-Game. Don't miss it. Then cheer like heck for our Tigers. It will be a memorable weekend!

Although my suggestions may differ from some on here, here goes:

Friday night: (UNLESS YOU GO TO NOLA)

There are casinos and restaurants downtown on the River.

Dinner at Ruffino's or Phil's Oyster Bar or Ruth's Chris or T J Ribs.
Others:
The Chimes, Acme Oyster House, Louisiana Lagniappe, Mansur's, Juban's, Mike Anderson's, Ralph and Kacoo's, Drusilla Seafood , DeAngelo's

Casual: Louie's, George's, Poor Boy Lloyd's, Pastime
Fleur De Lis, Cane's

Sports Bars w/food: Walk-On's near Tiger Stadium,
Pastime Lounge, Ivar's, Barcadia, Pluckers

Friday night on campus you could visit the LSU Union or French House Restaurant.

Saturday. You picked the best game EVER.
One word: E A R L Y

The LSU campus has by far the best tailgating in the Milky Way Galaxy. Just about anywhere on campus is good, but my favorite areas:

The Parade Grounds facing the Campanile/Memorial Tower and next to the LSU Union.
The Indian Mounds area between the Journalism Bldg, Prescott Hall, and Cox Academic Center.
The area near the outdoor Greek Theatre.
The area across from the Parker Ag Center

Wear your favorite school or teams's gear and colors and you may just get your tummies full before noon.

Other things to do on GameDay:

Visit campus and walk through the Quadrangle (behind the Memorial Tower/Campanile)

Visit the LSU Union (lots of restaurants and big screen tvs, pool tables, etc., souvenir shops.

Visit our recently departed Mike VI's Habaitat.
Right near there, enjoy a band playing live music
right in front of the Pete Maravich Assembly Center PMAC-(directly across from Death Valley)

Visit the Tiger Athletic Foundation (TAF) pregame inside the PMAC, if a member would invite you in with their card :)

Watch the LSU coaches and football team walk down Victory Hill (in between Death Valley and PMAC)

Followed by the best band in the land - The Gooooooooooooolden Band From Tigerland, stand in awe and goosebumps as they play Pregame/Hold That Tiger.

Get into the stadium and into your seat EARLY EARLY EARLY.
Why? So you won't miss the greatest most dazzling pregame on Earth - the Pregame/Four Corners Salute/Hold That Tiger is breathtaking.

If there is ANYTHING you should NOT miss - it's that.

Wear whatever school you root for shirt on Game Day. That is a sure fire way to get invited into tail gates.

Get there 6-8 hours before game time. Better parking and more tailgating and such. Watch the band and team walk down the hill. Too bad we will not have a tiger for yall to get to see. Tell people its yalls first game and you will be given free food and drink. have fun.

We have never thought of doing this before. Is this a real thing? People will be friendly if we are wearing Illinois and Michigan gear to an LSU game? It sounds like a fun idea, but I guess I'm hesitant.

Yes, do this and if you wear an LSU hat too you will definitely be well received by all. Also talk shite about Alabama and you will drink and eat like a king at every tailgate you walk by. I would 100% absolutely positively do all of this and can't stress this part enough.

Also, if I were you I would try to get to campus early, especially if Game Day is there (Game Day will be set up on the Parade Grounds if it is there), and just walk up, down and around Dalrymple Drive for most of the day.
Start the morning off by going to Chimes off Highland Rd. and get a bloody mary or something. Then walk south on Highland road until you reach Dalrymple- just a block away. From here you can go to the Parade Grounds, see Memorial Tower, (Student Union is meh, not really much to see there) walk west down Dalrymple and you'll see plenty of tailgates and this will also bring you past the Greek Theater (North side of Dalrymple) keep walking further west on Dalrymple and it will bring you to the Indian Mounds, Tiger Stadium, PMAC, Mike's habitat, and more tailgates with more Cajuns offering free booze and food. The only drink you might have to buy all day is the one at Chimes, you'll probably eat and drink for free the rest of the day.
You're in for a great rivalry and a great experience. Hope y'all enjoy and be sure when you walk by people to give a head nod and a

Tiger Stadium First Timer Needing Some Advice - (LSU - Alabama)

Here is some advice... Enjoy every minute of it. The atmosphere in the LSU-Bama games is simply electric.

It's the best move you can make. You will immediately be identified as someone who is here on a bucket list trip and is here for the party and experience. People will bend over backwards to make sure you try their food (South Louisianians love to cook and love for people to brag on their cooking even more) and are having a great time.

But don't take my word on it
Scott Van Pelt on LSU atmosphere

Most important phrase you should know...."that looks/smells great. What is that?" Tell people this is your first trip to BR. You will be stuffed and/or drunk by noon.

Seriously, thanks for coming down! We love having visitors and sharing what is truly one of the most unique settings in all of sport. You will have a blast and will probably make a return trip.

I know people have mentioned it several times, but the reason they suggest wearing your other teams gear is because we like for non SEC schools to see how we do things in the South and have a great time. Teams from the Midwest are nonthreatening, so we like those fans that made an effort to come see Tiger Stadium at its best. So wear your jerseys and people will be curious and invite you over to tell you about LSU Football and ask about your school. If you throw on an LSU hat, they'll love you even more, but not necessary. If you happen to make the mistake of wearing anything red that day, you will NOT have a good time, so remember Illinois or Michigan stuff or Purple and Gold.

Also, if you're wearing your Illinois and Michigan jerseys and "Tiger Bait" a Bama fan, then you'll be welcomed with open arms to the 10 nearest tailgates. Also, Bama won't know what the frick is going on because they'll recognize the chant, but see you have on different colors and it will blow their mind.

Friday: Baton Rouge has a pretty colorful selection of restaurants to set your tastebuds off, most people will suggest staples like Parrain's, The Chimes, or Ruffino's - all are great and hometown staples, but tend to be extremely busy on game Friday's. For a little more mild scene, I would try out the downtown eateries, Stroube's, Capitol City Grill, or Joli Pearl. The downtown bars are also just around the corner. Just a short Uber ride from downtown, you can get drinks at The Bulldog on Perkins, The Pelican House on Corporate, Ivar's Sports Bar (total hole-in-the-wall dump, but can be a fun place for drinks). Also on that side of town, Phil's Oyster Bar just opened back up.

Saturday: Just show up early and stay late. I see several suggestions to head over to the parade grounds, that's all good in small doses as that's where the frats party, and most of those guys and gals don't know how to handle their alcohol. I would suggest wearing some very comfortable shoes and taking in the entire campus: Old Alex Box/LSU Foundation, S. Stadium Drive/Skip Bertman, Old Front Nine on Nicholson, Indian Mounds, Agriculture Hub (Parker Coliseum and the surroundings on Highland).

Note to the wise, just stay away from streets named after presidents, states, and Native American tribes.

This is very good advice. Everyone is telling you were to go, but not pointing out places NOT to go. DO NOT go off campus to the North, like past Chimes the restaurant. And do not try to walk between Campus and Downtown. That is a shithole the entire area. I've done it on game day because the traffic is so bad, but I'm 6'5" 270 lbs and carry a gun. I know the people and the area, but I wouldn't normally suggest it. Just drive to campus, park early and STAY on campus...unless it's to go to Chimes or Walk Ons.

LSU people take great pride in entertaining guest. It's well beyond a "polite" thing. It's an art form down here. We'd take offense to one of our own NOT showing you a good time.

Walk up to any tailgate, introduce yourself in much the same manner that you did on this board, and watch the food and drinks head your way.

Walk up to a tailgate, explain you're from the Midwest just in to see a good rivalry game, and offer to buy a plate of the exotic food you see. Then, get laughed at when your told that your money's no good here as the tailgate host mounds you up a plate, then asked whatcha drinking
